I'll be watching from the comfort of my sofa in the basement in front of the HDTV. We thought about going, but the tickets fell through.

Ouch. The Redwings really laid it to the Hawks last night. It looked like the Hawks have been reading their own press clippings of late. Here's hoping that the Winter Classic is a better game than last night.

Well, the good news is that the Hawks won't see the Redwings until the last two games of the season. Now, back to the rest of the league that will be playing for the Redwing's leftovers.

Joke indeed. Clearly there's a lot of people voting in Montreal. That's alright, they can have the All-Star game. The Bruins are taking the cup this year.

I've got to agree with you there. While I am a huge Hawks fan, I don't believe that Toews and Campbell should be starting. I'm OK with Kane, and I think the other 2 are worthy of being named to the team, but not as starters. Even worse is that Ovechkin is not named as a starter in the East. That is a complete joke.

Popular CANADIAN vote you mean? Nobody ever watches the NHL All Star game anyhow, it's ratings are pitiful every year.

How is Alexander the Great left off the starting line-up? The best player in the game is not a starter?! Probably because he doesn't play in or near Canada. Tim Thomas wasn't even on the stupid ballot after pretty much winning the game for the East last year and having great numbers this year, not that he'd have gotten any votes anyways from the Canadian, especially Montreal fans, who appear to have come out in droves to vote.

Sidney Crosby and Joe Thornton fans might have a bit of a disagreement with you there, Ice....

Looks like Gaborik is out for the year and will sign somewhere else next year. We will be better off without him anyway. He cant stay healthy anyway and I'm bored with his attitude.

Sidney's fans might, especially in a few years but Thornton? Please! I was a fan of his for years. I used to go to games when they sucked just to watch #19 so I got to see him in person quite a bit when he played for the B's and while he is very good he shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as the other two. They are all time greats. Thornton unfortunately has a habit of disapearing and going soft in the playoffs too but if you're a fan of his you already know that.

As for the Habs, a loss could, not likely but could, come Tuesday. The B's are too good at home this year to lose that one I think. Even if it happened that would only tie up the season series Wink

No, they are not all time greats. Can they be? Absolutely. Do I expect them to be? Yes. But they are too early in their careers to be called "all-time" greats.

You haven't seen him in the playoffs with the Sharks since he arrived, have you? I would absolutely agree with your statement when he was with the B's. Much different with the Sharks....

As far as your "same breath comment" look at the last three winners of the Hart and Art Ross trophies. Same breath indeed....

If MVP's put you in the same category as everyone else I guess Dustin Pedroia is headed for Cooperstown to be with his fellow MVP winners like Mantle, Gherig, Ruth, Williams, Mays, Rodriguez...

And you're right I haven't seen him in the playoffs, because as usual his team made early exits (bounced in rounds 1, 2 and 2 in 2006, 7 & 8) and he continued the lack of post season production he was known for in Boston. He's a big guy who's afraid to get physical near the net and score some goals, hence his high assist/low goal totals and his Ross trophy for points.

As for Thorntons MVP, well, I guess that makes him the A-Rod of the NHL. Ovechkin was the first player to win the Ross, Richard, Pearson and Hart Trophies in a single season last year. Crosby took his team to the finals last year. Thornton did what last year? If Ovechkin and Crosby's careers dont blow away Thornton's and go down as two of the all time greats I'll be stunned.

The statement about Pedroia is just stupid. He is a second year player.

You are so correct when saying that the early exits are Thornton's fault. I guess it was Ovechkin's fault that they only went one round as well.

As far as getting in front of the net, you let your contempt for Thornton's career as a Bruin cloud your judgment with what he does now. Watch a few games of this years Sharks and then make the same statement.

Ovechkin did have a fantastic year last year. How far did the Caps go in the playoffs? Oh wait we already covered that.

As I said earlier, Crosby and Ovechkin could be all-time greats eventually. Just don't annoint them yet....

Pedroia has as many MVP's as Thornton so if Thornton's MVP is your rationale behing him being up there with Ovechkin and Crosby the prosecution rests your honor.

I've seen Thornton in the playoffs enough to know that his teams early exits are largely, not entirely, contributed to him. I can't really watch the Sharks games, I live 3000 miles away and they aren't on but if he comes to Boston I'll be watching and I bet I'll see him with a lot of assists and not crashing the net. I don't have contempt for him, he was a good player and a good person in Boston and I enjoyed having him here but the fact is he disappears in the playoffs.

Please show me where I used MVP's as a barometer of greatness. How many great players never won an MVP? How many players have had singularly great years and won an MVP? Your argument is the one that is flawed there, Ice....

Maybe you can see the first and third goals the Sharks scored last night (or was it against Edmonton, I don't remember?), The goals were scored because Thornton crashed the net.

You can't use what he did in Boston and compare it to his play with the Sharks. They are two different things, period. If you had seen his play with the Sharks, and made the statement, then your opinion might have some validity, but since you admit you haven't seen him with the Sharks, your opinion is baseless....

Just out of curiosity how much did you see him in Boston to validate your opinion on how he has changed? My opinion is based on the fact that he puts up great numbers all year and exits stage left asap in the post season and I don't see any evidence to the contrary yet. If you're happy with him I'm happy for you and his 9 goals this year but I'd take Ovechkin or Crosby every day of the week over Thornton without a second thought.

Anyhow, great win by the B's tonight without Kessel, Lucic and Sturm. 2 goals from Chara, didn't see that comming and another great all-star stopping performance from Thomas. They're gonna have to keep it up since Sturm had surgery and Kessel apparently kissed the wrong skank. Oh well, here we go Bruins here we go!

Yeah, Thomas won that game for them last night because I thought for the most part, Montreal out played the Bruins, but goaltending is huge. Hope the all star break doesnt spoil there mojo!

Lets hope they meet up in the playoffs, always fun to watch.

He has more than nine goals.... You seem to be stuck on the fact that he doesn't score a lot of goals. He isn't a big time goal scorer. Get over it. He sets up goals. I bet you were one of those fans that was always unhappy that Wade Boggs didn't hit many home runs.... Wink

I saw much of Thornton in Boston, which is why I am able to say that his game has changed quite a bit. You admittedly say you haven't seen much of him in San Jose, so I would say that you aren't quite qualified to make that opinion.

Let's see if I can make an analogy for you. Would you have rather had the Minnesota Big Papi, or the one who showed up in Boston? Same player or different player? Can somebody's game change in a year? Here's a hint: compare Papi's 2002 to his 2003 stats....

On another note....

I can't believe how HUGE a team the Lightning have. Granted, that was observed in a 7-1 a$$-whoopin' by the Sharks, but still....

Oh, and Thornton scored two goals by being in front of and around the net....

The Hawks took it to Buffalo last night 4-1. They are close to unbeatable at home in the United Center. The only loss in regulation at the UC was to the Sharks in a 6-5 thrill ride. The only other "home" loss was to Detroit in the Winter Classic at Wrigley Field.

Rangers are next on Friday night.
