I hear ya DVD, I was pretty upset too. However, it might be good for the Sharks to have to really fight their way through round one (if they make it out).

Getting the Ducks is hardly a prize for winning the conference.

X 2 - Hate to say it though, but if I was a betting man it would be tough to go against them.

Unfortunately, I agree with you Dunder - I wouldn't bet against the Redwings just yet. As long as my Hawks are still alive though, a man can dream...

I thought so when I decided to phrase it that way Wink

Either way, I like that the Ducks have the Sharks a bit concerned. The Ducks came together at the right time, if they get through the first round, I feel their confidence will carry them far. Likewise, if the Sharks get through, I feel they will end up in the conference finals.

First day of the playoffs are done - as expected the battle of PA is going to be nasty, Avery is doing his thing for the Rangers and got away with blatant interference in laying a pick on Green that immediately resulted in a goal, the Devils look poised to once again use a combination of lock down defense and all world goaltending to make a deep run, and last but certainly not least the Nucks take a hard played game 1 from the Blues, though the refs need to remember that no one is paying to see them.

Good stuff so far. I don't see many East games, but I was not expecting Pittsburgh to be so physical.

Here are my picks:

San Jose over Anaheim
Chicago over Calgary
Vancouver over St. Louis
Detroit over Columbus (hope I'm wrong)

Boston over Montreal
Pittsburgh over Philly
New Jersey over Carolina
Washington over Rangers

Chicago over San Jose (wishful thinking I know)
Vancouver over Detroit

Boston over Pittsburgh
New Jersey over Washington

Chicago over Vancouver
Boston over New Jersey

Boston over Chicago for Stanley Cup (I don't want to jinx the Hawks, so I'll pick the Bruins)

I saw a stat yesterday that since 1994, the 7th seed has beat the 2nd seed 50% of the time. Hopefully that continues and Columbus knocks off Detroit.

I'm really curious how Thomas performs in the playoffs with the high expectations on the Bruins to be a real cup threat - I think he has a very strong case for the Vezina (my vote would be between him and Steve Mason, the only edge to Mason being that he plays on a significantly weaker team but still managed to lead the league in shutouts, the other key stats definitely go Thomas' way) but the success of a season is measured by the playoffs not the regular season.

I hope chicago wins it all. I'm just glad the wild got rid of the coach and general manager this week. We have sold out every game since we got the wild and for a decade we cant seem to draft or keep our good players. Hopefully new management and coach will be able to make us more competitive.

Every game I see the Habs I hate them even more. They're a bunch of sore losing cheap shot flopers. I don't just want the Bruins to beat them I want them to beat the crap out of them also for the stuff they pull like after Kessel's empty netter. They look like a whole team of Averys tonight.

That said the B's looked pretty good tonight. They kept their composure, the young guys stepped it up and Thomas looked solid except for one of the goals he probably should have stopped but a win's a win. 1 down 15 to go.

Excellent overtime win for the Hawks last night. I am surprised that Calgary wasn't more physical with the Hawks last night. The Hawks actually outhit the Flames 38-24. Once the first period jitters were done, the Hawks played pretty good hockey from the second period through overtime.

I'm more surprised to see that Icewino hasn't been on here yet to give DnVD some grief about Thornton and the Sharks' loss. Thornton only had 1 shot on goal last night - and it didn't come until there were only 48 seconds left in the game. He wasn't alone though. Marleau, Clowe, Michalek and Roenick only had 1 shot each as well. You've got to be wondering if Thornton isn't laying in bed this morning thinking "here we go again".

Reminds me of a Simpsons quote, I believe from McBain:

How do you sleep at night?

On a pile of money with many beautiful ladies.

The Sharks outshot the Ducks two to one, but it sure didn't seem like it. Not too many real scoring chances. It just seemed like blast from the blue line and hope you get lucky.... Frown

I only saw part of the game then fell asleep. Versus carried the overtime Hawks/Flames game which cut into what I could keep my eyes open for of the SJ game. I did see that Thornton was a -1 with one shot on goal this morning but didn't know anything else. I'll catch the Sunday night game though, Joe should be waxing up his surf board by Monday morning.
