If you agree that #1 is correct, then I don't see how you can say that Ott was agitating to such an extent that he had to assume a fight would ensue. If he stuck out a knee, boarded a guy from behind face first into the boards, or nailed a guy open ice 5 seconds after he made a pass, then hell yes he had better be ready to throw, and if he's not in a position to then he really should have thought about that before making a cheap play and he would deserve to take a thumping.

With that said, I don't think his cross checks on Niedermayer were nasty enough that he should have expected a fight to ensue, frankly they didn't seem to bother Scott all that much - he's a big boy who's been standing in front of the net taking little shots like that his entire HOF career. In any event, Giguere got involved so Moen came after him. You can say that this is what truly initiated the fight but it was still Moen who came in swinging, not Ott.

At the end of the day though I too find it hard to have a ton of sympathy for Ott, you live by the sword...

At least you understand what happened Dunder. D&V'sDad can't seem to come to grips with the fact that the Ducks went after Ott, he started nothing.

2. It was hardly a "vicious" slash. I would even say the blow to the head was worse. If it was so "vicious" why didn't the NHL suspend Giguiere? They have been suspending people for intent to injure quite a bit lately, but they didn't in this case. Must not have been "vicious".

Ahem no. My view was he should have been suspended, remember I said that in my first post. That was the unfairness of the incident.

6. "Preconceived hatred"? For whom? And before you toss about the word "hatred", know to whom you are talking. But the really stupid thing about your statement is that I dislike the Ducks far more than I dislike the Stars. If you have any clue about the real history of the Stars, and the fact that I am NorCal born and raised, you might have an idea why. But then I doubt that you do, so maybe the names Dennis Maruk, Charlie Burns, Brian Lawton, Ted Hampson, Ernie Hickie, and Gilles Meloche might help....Got it figured out?

For your information I know plenty about the Stars history. I am a Stars fan today because I was a Seals fan, like I am of all Oakland teams. Well not Golden State, luckily as a child I was unaware that they played in Oakland.

Remember to always aim high, that way you won't get any on your shoes.

Dunder -

Actually, I do think we agree.

I don't think what Ott did to Neidermayer was egregious enough to spark what happened - we agree.

Moen went after Ott because Giggy got involved - we agree.

I'm glad we agree, now we can focus on the Canucks' biggest litmus test of the season, their game Saturday against the Sharks. The Nucks are playing their best hockey of the season and they're at home, now we can see if they have any shot of hanging with the big boys.

Don't let the facts get in the way of your argument, VT2IT. Where did I ever say Ott deserved what happened?

All I said was that he deserved more than a one game suspension for attempting to injure Moen.

And actually, he did start it with the cross-checking. Listen to the video. Ott cross-checked Neidermayer AFTER the horn sounded. THEN Giguire slashed Ott.

I am quite surprised that you chose not to address any of the facts.... Roll Eyes

The Canucks are getting the Sharks at a very good time. The Sharks third line is terrible right now, and can be exposed quite easily. Combine that with the fact that Nabby is hurt (flu-like symptoms, yeah right), and the Sharks are in for some rough going these next couple weeks....

Hey Dom,

That was such a rarity for the Wild to make a 0-3 comeback! Believe me - we need the 2 pts. more than you.

Not happy Miles. Not happy at all. Frown Mad

The Sharks are in a real funk right now. Lemieux was a healthy scratch again, so I am thinking that the comeback might be over.

Nabby's "flu-like symptoms" suddenly turned into a lower body injury and he was put on the DL.

The Sharks miss Roenick and Grier terribly. Hopefully Moen and Huskins can add some spark against the Canucks on Saturday.....

Seems like the Sharks are struggling, if the Nucks can't take them now, at home, when they're on top of their game, I think they can put any fleeting thoughts of taking a run at them come May out of their minds.

Don't get me started on my guys' funk.... Frown Mad

Still, as long as they do better than the Hated Habs, I'll take it, especially after the last few years.

Yeah the Isles have been pretty terrible for a lot of years, how many times have they made the playoffs in the last 10 years, once or twice? It doesn't help when you make absolutely brutal big dollar stupidly long-term contract signings for guys like Yashin and DiPietro.

The two best are in the two biggest funks at the moment. The B's are trying to hold on to one for dear life right now but they've turned a good lead into a nail bighter right now.

All I can say is thank goodness that Detroit isn't playing real well right now...

Last night was just another poorly played game by the Sharks....

And the officiating... Roll Eyes

How in the world to Hordichuk and Shelley get two minutes for roughing? That was clearly a fight....

If nothing else a big psychological win for the Nucks last night.

P.S. - as for Hordy vs. Shelley, I think Shelley got knocked down too quickly for the refs to notice it was actually a fight. Big Grin

There's been a big shakeup in Montreal. Carbonneau is out and Gainey has gone behind the bench.

Any reaction from the Habs fans here?

As much as I like Carbo, I'm glad to see a shakeup. When your team is in disarray as the habs are there are onlt 3 options- 1)give up and wait until next year 2)trade your goalie or 3)fire your coach. It was obvious that the Habs don't want to wait. I thought Price might go at the deadline but I guess Gainey knew that it was going to be Carbo. If anyone can right the ship it's Bob.

*******
Not looking good for next year either.

Miles of Lief, what will happen first, we do an offline together or Gaborik plays a game or the wild make the playoffs? I'm betting on an offline. Cool

How about a reaction from a Bruins fan? Big Grin I would laugh even harder except that Boston is playing as badly as Montreal recently.

Hilarious!!! Sharks get out to another 3 goal lead and the Wild come back. I had hockey myself so I missed the whole thing until the OT. This is unheard of hockey for Lemaires team. The chip in goal by Ehrhoff was such a dumb little goal. I'll definitely take 3 pts. in two games against the sharks.
