My wife’s firm has giving her the opportunity to do a rotation in London for 2 years so we are moving from sunny California to grey and rainy London. We are very excited and plan to use this opportunity to travel as much as we can. I have been there a few times on business and once for vacation so I’m some what familiar with the city, but could always use suggestions. Right now it looks like we will be living in Mayfair, but that could change once we get there.
With that said, I would love recommendations for local wine shops, favorite restaurants, pubs, shows and anything else you have enjoyed in the UK. Thanks in advance! “What is the soup du jour?"...It’s the soup of the day..."Mmmm, that sounds good, I’ll have that” - Lloyd Christmas |

The port nuts over at the port forum seem to enjoy the Crusted Pipe for various port events.
Berry Bro.s is one of the big merchants over there with an impressive store to match. Then there are the touristy stuff like Harrods. Notting hill area (elizabeth tube stop I believe) has a great chinese restaurant that serves authentic dim sum and very worthwhile. Nottinghill brasserie is a very nice romantic restaurant for two. Cozy, live music and great atmosphere. Forget brick line, visit Whitechapel for the curries http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitechapel |

So, what are YOU going to do while you're there? Nine years ago, my wife got transferred overseas.....so I gave up my career and now I've been retired ever since. That 6-year gap overseas and now 3 back in the states just hasn't been real enticing to prospective employers. Not sure why, I'm probably more capable today than I was then. I have spent every day dealing with kids and schooling them......pretty much just like my management career.

Foghorn, a great point.
I know of three couples that relocated overseas. In each case, it all but killed/ major set back for one of their career's. |

I’m currently negotiating with my current employer to see if I can do my job remotely from London. If that doesn’t work out I’m just going to try to land a contract with a sub of an american company over there. I’m a CPA and have heard that American company’s over there are always in short supply of CPA’s. If that doesn’t work I might just have to bartend or maybe volunteer for the 09 harvest in Tuscany?? “What is the soup du jour?"...It’s the soup of the day..."Mmmm, that sounds good, I’ll have that” - Lloyd Christmas |

You are very lucky, Glenn. I'm hoping for a posting there myself in a year or two.
There have been many threads providing wine-related advice to those traelling to London, here are some of them: http://forums.winespectator.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6826...=458106213#458106213 http://forums.winespectator.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9581...=182109944#182109944 http://forums.winespectator.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6826...?r=54660325#54660325 There are others including a long thread with all sorts of useful info on London, but I cannot find it. ------------------- Go Bruins!!
