But, the key question is....how will they tell if the workers are asleep? Not productivity, for sure.
(I figured cdr11 would like this)

However, if they are caught napping during one of their 14 smoke breaks a day, they will be severely reprimanded!!

Eek Razz Roll Eyes

You may not believe this, but I love French wine, French food and most of the French people I meet in the United States and elsewhere. I know many farmers in the Languedoc-Rousillon and they are wonderful people. I get riled up about France because it is sad to watch Europe die at its own hand. A lot of inncoent, good people are the losers in their silly socialist downslide. They are the example of why we must resist socialism in all its forms.

Are you watching anything else than FOX news from time to time?
And also, go on the web and check which country has the highest productivity...You'll be surprised I think.

french 16,

Don't keep us waiting. Which country's work force has the highest productivity?

. . .and please give the source of your information. Also include their per capita gdp, the unemployment rate and their budget deficit numbers, if you don't mind.

On average, I'm pretty sure it's Luxembourg. I think maybe Canada has passed us up too. THe U.S. Department of Labor has this stuff so well hidden on their site that I can't even find it any more. Proof that the productivity statistic doesn't really mean that much and neither does GDP. We brag about these statistics, where few really knows what it means. Statistics are meaningless.

Here's the only statistic that matters. Go to the other country, live there for a year and tell me what you thought. There will be advantages and disadvantages.

According to the US Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics it is South Korea. The US is third, well ahead of France and Japan. Keep sleeping on the job, just like you did on the Maginot line. Razz

Canada is not even close. And hard to find, it took me about 15 seconds. Where is your proof that statistics do not matter? Or do they only matter if they back your side?

yup - i am sure their productivity is high when they work 30 hours a week and let's not forget that you can't ever fire anyone for poor performance. help me out here - are you actually trying to tell me they have a stronger economy than ours with lower unemployment? i have a couple of friends who just moved back here from toulouse and they would beg to differ...

The fact that it changes every year should prove to you that the top 10 countries are all pretty close--and that these statistics don't really mean anything except for the general health of the economy.

THe fact that you guys think that if you move to France you're gonna get caught in the middle of a bunch of lazy workers and protests is just ignorant. Anyone who's lived there goes like this Roll Eyes every time they read your post.

EDIT: Could you be a nice guy and link to it?

What do you care that statistics do not matter? You don't have a math background and it's a good thing because you wouldn't be able to twist statistics to your liking.

Don't even try that crap here! How can anyone have respect for France when they waived the white flag in WW2 and actually cheered as the Panzer tanks rolled into Paris.
Chirac is repeating the cowardice of Neville Chamberlain by saying Iran should be permitted to develope Nukes.
If the rest of the world behaved like France in WW2 we would all be a part of the "German Empire".

i did a quick search for unemployment levels in France last year and the European Tribune reported anywhere from 9.5 - 9.6% unemployment last year. OVER 9% unemployment????? That sounds like fun...they can have their high productivity levels - I'll take my strong economy, thank you.

I don't see anything wrong with the French napping on the job. Their army's been doing it for generations.

Just one more sip.

by the way genius, did you know that in April of last year when they had their youth riots (i wonder if they counted them towards their productivity figures), youth unemployment was at 22%...think about that fun stat a minute - by the way, this info came from CNN's web site not FOX news.

Peer Gynt,

Why have you chosen to live in the United States? I'm serious. If these European countries are pretty much the same as the U.S. and per capita GDP and other economics statistics don't mean anything, why didn't you remain in one of those countries. I'm curious.

I've travelled in Europe I feel like kissing the ground when I return back to the United States. People in France march to protect their welfare benefits. A recent University study showed that 60% or more of French high school students hope to work for the government as a career.

Italians have a beautiful philosophy of life, but they are dying off, failing to reproduce themselves. I encountered strikes in Torino, Bologna and Verona on one five week trip. The garbage piles up, the transportation stops. People don't seem to give a damn.

Europe is not anything like the United States in any meaningful way. They have lost confidence in the exceptionalism of Western culture. Religion is essentially dead and a post Christian malaise has created society after society with no will to fight, hence the Islamification of London, Paris and other cities.

Just imagine having a business in France - the regulation - the "workers rights," for naps, paid leave, cradle to grave entitlement - inability to fire poor, unproductive workers. I would love to think Americans would fight these socialist, totalitarian practices and infringements on the rights of business owners.

It's a very good question, CCR. I will openly admit that I was planning my exit strategy after graduation. I was a scientist working for a University. I was lucky enough to work at CERN for three months. The amount of respect that you get doing that kind of thing in Europe is really hard to resist.

I don't want to go into too many details, but basically I was offered a huge promotion and business opportunity here in the U.S.

For people with money, the U.S. is an excellent place to live. Low taxes, lots of opportunity, good conversations with good people, food, drink, etc.

But if you work for the government or you have a low-paying job or if you dedicate your life to educating the youth, the U.S. kinda sucks. You're part of a lower social class. People look down on you--even other people who are in your own class but who like to pretend that they're part of a higher class. There is lots of nasty stuff going on.

So yeah, if I were still a scientist, it would be an easy decision, but as it is, I am very satisfied. But I will always defend educators, scientists, and socialist countries.

That's funny, my wife is a social worker and her health benefits with the University are simply amazing. Better and less expensive than anything I have ever seen in the private sector. As a result, we only use hers, not my companies'.

By the way, if you have a low paying job anywhere, it sucks - I don't care if its France, Canada, the US or Greenland.

I gotta say, you are not very convincing...

Ah, the famous "you're not very convincing" argument. I can tell you're not speaking from experience, Mattach.
