Now that is stupid!!! Guess the gun distributors don't suffer a financial loss as do wine distributors Smile

Just about every state allows this. It is mainly because the dealer has a Federal Firearms License (FFL). This allows that dealer to import weapons, there is generally no state monitoring of this, only federal. If I want something I go to someone with a FFL and they get it for me. Kind of like the going to the LWS and asking them to get a bottle of Sea Smoke. Only difference is alcohol is controlled by the state.

Well, it takes a "shot" at being funny, but I still never understood that logic. When's the last time someone was killed by a spoon??

It's going to be very interesting to see what happens when the Supreme Court hears the Parker v. DC case on March 18th.

For those who are not aware, the District of Columbia had passed a very restrictive law which prohibited the ownership of handguns.

The US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit struck down the law in a 2-1 vote, as violating the 2nd Amendment. The Supreme Court granted review.

This may be a very decisive case on the issue of the 2nd Amendment. I've read some of the amicus briefs in the case.

Of course, the Supreme Court might punt on a very technical matter. Since the law arises out of the District of Columbia, and not out of a "State", one could argue that the 2nd Amendment doesn't apply to the District of Columbia, since the 14th Amendment only applies the Bill of Rights to "States" (and DC isn't a state). Wouldn't that be an interesting result?

There are tons of cases where licensed folks killed someone by accident.

A citation on this one would be good too.

I fully expect Kennedy to write the opinion for a 5-4 court and to add Parker to the long list of "nuanced" legal opinions that no one understands. I expect no resolution of the issue.

Your assessment of the law is correct, irwin. The NCIC background check and 30 day waiting period don't really translate to "come in, buy and return home." The implication was that it is easy to drive across the border, purchase a weapon and leave quickly. And as far as DC is concerned, well obviously the poster didn't do his homework.
