Coming from the Latrell Sprewell "trying to feed my family" on $6M a year reality.

Wish we would sign him already...
Heard an interesting interview with Mitch Kupchak yesterday. He basically said there is no way they are giving him $10M a year when no other team is going to offer Odom more that the mid-level, which is about $6M. He did say that they do want him back and are working towards meeting in the middle.
Heard that Portland and Dallas are the only two teams in the running for Lamar besides the Lakers.

As far as I've read, Odom hasn't made any stupid comments about the money being inadequate. [We wouldn't want Sprewell's quote knocked off its pedestal, would we?] To be fair, he is looking at a big pay cut after he accepted an secondary role and was key to the team's winning a title. Yes, the zeros make it beyond our comprehension and sympathy. Portland has cap room but Odom is not on their list as far as I've read. Dallas would have to do a sign and trade. They are dramatically over the cap. Thanks for the good wishes ( ) on Artest. It will prove to be very interesting. My biggest concern is his previous habit of bad shots and excessive dribbling. He did run the triangle (Tim Floyd version) with the Bulls during the early part of his career, though. Attitude-wise, I think Artest has been itching to play with Kobe (and Phil and boro-buddy Odom) for years. I expect that he'll be the most loyal of knights. Having him guard 'Melo, Manu, Pierce, Carter, Wade or LeBron in the playoffs will be nice. Neil

Well said. Plus, I think a great deal of Artest's poor shooting/shot selection/excessive dribbling can be attributed to: a) being asked to handle the majority of the scoring load, which will not be the case here, and b)playing too many minutes, which will not be the case here

very true... my concern also is his strong personality... hows he going to handle Kobe screaming at him when he does something wrong? the other players currently on the roster are fairly non-confrontational when it comes to arguing with Kobe (or putting up with his jawing at them when they walk off the court). Artest doesnt exactly come across as the non-confrontational type or someone who would take that on a regular basis

If Kobe is as good of a leader as he wants to convince everyone he is, he will need to adjust as well. I never understood his yelling at everyone else, even when he is to blame on certain plays.

Whoops! I was off a few weeks! Thank you Jerry Buss. No one could ever say Dr. Buss wasn't committed to winning. He has proved it again!
