Was musing about this with some colleagues and wondering how exactly to frame it and who would know.
Could one put together a full lineup of an NFL team (every position filled) based on guys who were [convicted, indicted, ?] NFL players? A few came to mind such as Michael Vick at QB with Plaxico Burris at WR. There was a defensive lineman in Chicago who had some troubles with the law.
thoughts?

RB - Travis Henry or Jamal Lewis take your pick (coke dealers) RB - OJ Simpson (Do I need to specify) LB - Ray Lewis (murderer) CB - Adam "Pac-Man" Jones (Chose your crime du jour) WR - Michael Irvin (Crack Pipe) O Line - Nate Newton (Drug Transporting) Many of the Vikings on that infamous party boat
I'm sure there's lots more but these are recent ones that come to mind.
A local guy: Steve “Mustafa” Muhammad, a Colts player who beat his pregnant wife, who subsequently died in a car crash (she was driving) a couple of days later.
Best part of his story is they find him hidding in the trunk of his car. Would have loved to seen his face when they opened up that trunk. What a dirtbag.

Icewino: The murder charges against Ray Lewis were dropped when witnesses changed their testimony. He plead guilty to obstruction of justice and got 1 year probation. He spends a good bit of money on good charitable causes in Baltimore. His foundation distributes food to the needy at Thanksgiving, backpacks and school supplies for students at "back to school" time, fitness camps for youths, and a variety of other endeavors.
Maurice Clarett - he never played a down in the NFL but was drafted by the Broncos. He’s in prison for armed robbery. When arrested he had a loaded AK-47, a couple of other loaded handguns, a katana, and an open bottle of Grey Goose Vodka. He was also wearing Kevlar body armor and could not be put down with a Taser. What a waste of talent.

He was acquitted. Doesn't that mean that he really didn't do it? Just ask OJ.

C'mon, irwin!
Plea bargain down, and get away with it. He was involved, period.
Yes, he does lots of good things now that he has "found God", but he was still involved in that....

LT, greatest linebacker and cokehead in NFL history
Get it right, Taylor has a taste for crack. I would make him the Defensive coach, as he is past his playing days. But who knows, maybe a few hits off the ol' pipe, between plays would keep him on his A game.
...Been dazed and confused for so long, it aint true...

1) I didn't say he wasn't "involved." But what do you mean by "involved?" 2) This took place at a night club or something like that with tons of people there to potentially serve as witnesses. The prosecution would have been ecstatic to zap Ray Lewis. Yes, it was a plea bargain, but the fact is that the evidence that he was guilty of murder (which is the most serious crime we have in our country) was apparently not substantial. He didn't plead to manslaughter, aggravated assault, assault, battery, or even pushing and shoving or any other lesser crime of violence. The plea was a save face thing for the prosecutors. I just don't think it is appropriate to call him a "murderer" when that was not even close to being proven, and where the prosecution recognized that the evidence wasn't even strong enough to go to trial.

Nah, Mark Chmura and The Rocket specialized in that. Dallas has slowly worked toward becoming The Raiders, sadly.
If there was to be the perfect owner of an All Convict team it would be Jerry Jones of the Cowboys. While I am a Steeler fan, I do respect the past great teams of the Cowboys. Jerry Jones has done a real good job of turning a once respectable franchise into a team any NFL fan should truly hate. For that Jerry Jones is a criminal in an even worst way than Al Davis.
I just wish I could see the look on Jerry Jones face if my Steelers win #6 this year. It would be so priceless.

An NBA team has maybe 12 players with guaranteed contracts while a NFL team has 53 players and NO guaranteed contracts. The NFL has a much faster way to get rid of their trash. The Blazers started taking out their trash 3-5 years ago and have a young, talented team although there are some who like to live in the past.

Irwin,
I never called him a murderer. Somebody else did.
Now, I will certainly take a back seat to your knowledge of the legal system, but why would Lewis plea bargain down to something he didn't do? Why would the prosecutors need to save face? If they didn't have enough evidence to prosecute, why wouldn't Lewis go to trial and work to be acquitted? I mean, it wasn't like he was charged with shoplifting or something....
