Only in order of release for me, not sure I could say which one or two are my all-time fave. What are some of yours?
The Four Horseman Fade to Black Creeping Death Battery Master of Puppets Harvester of Sorrow One Sad But True Bleeding Me Fuel That Was Just Your Life End of the Line All Nightmare Long
If St. Anger was recorded properly and the songs weren't clipped/chopped together with Pro Tools I may have voted for the title track, Frantic, or maybe Some Kind of Monster. The thing is just too hard to listen too - even worse with headphones/earbuds.
Based on a previous thread about Iron Maiden, I'm guessing I'm not the only wine-loving heavy metal fan!

Fade to Black
I think I would have to say the same, just amazing.
Enter Sandman was just mind blowing the first time I heard it. I remember my parents banging on my door trying to get me to turn it down, ahhh memories.
Can't believe No Leaf Clover was left out.
Oh, and you are hardly the only wine loving heavy metal fan, but Metallica's style has evolved to really encompass many genres.

No Leaf Clover is an interesting choice, I would have never even put it in the top 20. Then after thinking about it I remember seeing it played live a few time and how powerful the transition from soft to heavy parts is.
Not a Metallica fan a all - never have been. I guess Enter Sandman as they play when Mariano Rivera enters the game - but that is about it. After that just One and Fade to Black I guess.
I switch the channel generally if they come on.

i could never think of metallica in the term of simply "songs". you gotta think whole recordings.
kill 'em all - nice debut, you know what they are about, but still demo worthy writing and production.
ride the lightning - nice production, gaining legs and momentum, lacking in solid song writing.
master of puppets - ding ding ding! mission accomplished! firing on all cylinders! *nothing* missing.
and justice for all - nice writing, horrible production, lacks identity. i think they were losing who they were. or maybe they never knew? the loss of cliff could have been the problem.
metallica - solid writing, solid production. meet the "new" metallica. also, meet the end of "metallica".
and then i never listened to anything else.

Earlier is better for me when it comes to Metallica. I do think they went downhill starting with their so called "black" album.
One my favorite songs is their remake of Am I Evil? Not sure why though, maybe its because it doesn't get over-played like many of their other songs.

I am a huge metal, power metal, speed metal fan. Anyone dig disturbed? Talk about angry music
Do a search for "Metal Blade Records"
I have the "Best Of" Vol. 2 & 3. I would love to have the 20th anniversary album.

It used to be Enter Sandman, but Rivera screwed that up....
Have to agree with that. Also Fade to Black, For Whom the Bell Tolls and I'm a big fan of their cover of Turn the Page but I don't know if that counts as "their" song or not.
I listened to and liked Metallica's first three records, but after and justice for all I stopped paying attention. I played in a punk band for ten years and I was more into the Ramones, Dead Boys and Stooges thing. My six year old son loves their music though in the car when 93X is on the radio. They have alot of very catchy songs for a metal band. I enjoyed Slayer back in the day more. Their lyrics were alot funnier considering they were a death metal band. If one were to go to fodderstompf@gmail.com it would link to gojohnnygo records where if you click on Swingin Teens it would show a compilation of live show outtakes of 24 songs released in 2008 of songs from 1984 to 1994. I was the lead singer. I think it's $10 for the cd. Ten of the songs were recorded live at CBGB'S from the sound board to cassette and later transfered to the cd.

A lot of you guys are missing that what shows the ability of the band is their staying power and the evolution of their style.
Metallica could not just play stuff like Kill Em All and Ride the Lightning forever. As musicians that would just get boring for them. They have been able to evolve and play different styles with amazing results.
Regardless which Metallica styles you like, there is something for almost everyone.
