The Yankee-Red Sox rivalry can bring out the worst in people. Myself being no exception. Perhaps Mr. Icewino would like to make a wager on the upcomping season?

Mr. Icewino is up for it. I'm confident in the Sox, even if I wasn't I always like a good wager. Keeps things interesting. Ideas?

Ice,
My first inclination was to make a "mayor" like wager. Like if the sox win I send you New York cheese cake and if the Yanks win you send me a New England lobster, however I shot down that idea as we both might be concerned we would poison each other.

Option #1
To keep this "friendly" lets bet comparable priced wines of different variables.
Since you like Shiraz, I have a $50 2004 Cape Mentelle Wallcliffe Shiraz I'll wager against something you have of similar value. What do you have to put up?

Option #2
The loser must go buy a T-shirt of the opposing team and wear it to work for one full day. In addition the loser must get a picture taken with the shirt on at work and post it here on this thread.

The bet is who goes deeper in the playoffs.
You make the call.

The bet sounds good. I like option #1 myself. If it were option #2 I'd probably get the "Jeter sucks A-Rod" shirt. Just kidding, Jeter is a class act, he could play for the Sox anytime. I wont start on A-Rod.

Honestly I have no idea what you like to drink. I can do more stalking or you can just let me know and I'll see what's in my cellar that's comparable.

Ice,
I like everything except whites and I'm not crazy about Merlot either. A Pinot Noir or Cab is fine, as long as it's around $50.
Just let me know what you are putting up so I can plan my victory meal Big Grin

How does a 2003 WillaKenzie Triple Black Slopes Pinot sound? I hope it sounds good because with that group of aging overpaid underachievers in stripes out there I'm betting you'll never know how it actually tastes Razz

Of course as you're fond of pointing out, I've been wrong before.

It's a bet!! I love a good Pinot, especially on the tab of a Sox fan. If however I come up on the short end I'll be a good sport and send you a bonus prize of my cream colored suit.

I like the bet, gives me just a little extra reason to enjoy the rivalry this year. I have a little something extra for you too if I lose, It's a bottle of wine, but that's all I'll say for now. Hell I may even throw it in as a consolation prize if I win. By the way, what size is that suit?

Watch, after the Tigers, White Sox and Indians pay out all that dough for their lineups, the Twins will probably win the AL Central anyway. I'm not saying it will happen, but if there's any organization with a history of doing just that, it's Minnesota.

I heard the Yankee's were playing Billy Crystal in their game today. Maybe they're trying him out to be a pinch hitter for A-Rod if they make it to the post season. He couldn't do any worse.

Why do you hate A-Rod so much? By the law of averages alone he'll explode in the playoffs eventually. It's like carrying an 8 USGA handicap and starting off a round with two 8's, eventually in that round you will play close to that 8 hc. That Billy Crystal thing annoyed me. They made it into a WWF type thing, lame.

Oh no I don't! After last year's September - I wouldn't dare.

Yes. The Billy Crystal thing was stupid. I don't know who annoys me more on every HBO or PBS baseball or old Yankee documentary Billy Crystal or Bob Costas. Roll Eyes

I'm a lifelong Yankee fan and I can't stand Bob Costas fawning all over them.

Did you see the size of Crystal's head??? When he was in his 20's and on Soap, he was so MUCH thinner and so was his head. He must be on the juice. Wink Guess it shows what money and contacts can do, what a day Billy must have had. It is only spring training, so good for him to experience a day that many of us would also love to be able to enjoy. Over the loud speakers, "Now batting for "insert your team's name and preferred number in the batting order here", now insert your name, and one can come close to the feeling one might get if given the chance. Personally, I am trying to find a way for my brother to be able to throw out the first pitch at a Giants game as he has been a fan for over 25 years and that would truly be a blessing regardless of the thoughts of how dismal this season will be as I just heard that our "great" young pitching staff has an ERA of over 9.00 from the starters so far in spring training. Woo Hoo!!!! It is early, at least that is what I keep telling myself. Right now I am laughing to keep from crying but thinking of Al Bundy saying "Oh, but for the love of God...".

The reference to A-Rod was his poor statistics during the play-offs recently. Just a statement of fact. There are other H of F's that have had similar problems. Hopefully A-Rod will overcome whatever his problems are and be able to show his worth in the play-offs, that is, IF you are a Yankee fan. The only thing I am sure of is that he will not be proving his value against the Giants in the World Series anytime soon as the Giants will not be there anytime soon, sad to say. There is no joy in Mudville.

Juicy,
The Giants have the important building blocks for the future, which is young, hard throwing arms. Don't despair, they will compete in a few years. Remember the Atlanta Braves from the early 90's? They were bad but had the young arms coming up.

I do agree with you there, WW, but there is nothing other than arms in the system. When the best position player prospect in the farm system is 17 years old....

Dom,
I have heard such things about the Giant's bats, however there is merit in building a team with good pitching and defense.(Especially in the National league) They can always pick up some veteran bats to fill out the roster. NO TEAM can win a championship devoid of good pitching.(No revelation there) Remember the mid 80's Yankees (Clark, Winfield) ? They were an offensive machine but had little league quality pitching (Hawkins, LaPoint, Cowley, Whitson..I could go on and on and on....)
