Sale runs 4/16 thru 4/30, and the sale prices apply only to orders placed online.

A few interesting wines, worth checking out. I'm a Duhart-Milon fan, and the 2000 is on sale for $17.44. Also, Dow and Fonseca 2000 are at a good price.

Link to sale

<edit: a link would be helpful, wouldn't it> Smile

Guys,

Be very very very careful with Sams. You need to check the "Do not substitute" button, which is not exactly in your face. Else you're likely to end up with another vintage.

It is on there somewhere... I fell prey to that the first time I ordered from Sam's. I got different vintages than I thought I was, because they substituted. Mad I make sure now to call my order in and tell them verbally that I do not wish any substitutions.

Yikes! from the order page:

"We reserve the right to make appropriate vintage substitutions when necessary. You may request that we notify you before doing so by writing " Do Not Sub" in the above delivery notes box. We will contact you by e-mail if necessary."

You guys are rotten to the core! The Duhart-Milon was completely sold out by the time I accessed the website. (sheepishly) Of course I wouldn't have identified it as a wine I would have wanted to try without your comments. I'll keep a look out other places.

Sometimes good news travels too fast! LB at Sam's is a sell-out.

BTW, they told me that the cases they had on special have been sitting next to the furnace all winter and were probably well past cooked. Anyone want to sell a case, I'll consider taking it off your hands.

Slapshot- pretty funny about the furnace. The joke is you probably aren't too far off from the truth. If I didn't think that wine could hold up to some abuse I wouldn't buy from Sam's at all. Fortunately I think mose wine can withstand some poor treatment.

BTW, the Croix de Casse is a good deal too. I tasted it at Sam's french night and thought it was fantastic. My tasting note is here. If I didn't already own a crapload of B2K I'd probably pick up a case.

Yes, but I came here for an argument.

Oh! Oh! I'm sorry, this is abuse.

For the record, I too had the experience of substituted vintages by Sam's. It was really egregious: substituting a later vintage is understandable ("we ran out of '99 so we shipped 2000") but I even had '98 Cali Cabs substituted for '99's.

Other side of the coin: I called and complained and they sent UPS to pick up items I was unhappy with and credited back my card with absolutely no hassle. When you consider that, I'd say they were a class act.

Another Sam's oddity: I've tried to get items on their semi annual big sales, emailing an order within 1 hour of the sale being posted and finding a majority of what I ordered out of stock. In one instance, a week later I was in Chicago for a sudden business trip and found time to stop in the store and found a number of the sale items that I was told were out of stock for the sale a few days earlier......

In sum, they are far from perfect, but they try and you can't beat the values on their sales.

AllRed,

I had a little conference with some of the Wine Mafia last night and as counselieri I have been instructed to advise you that we are not pleased. A little advance notice via email to the Chicago Crew before posting the info on the board would be appreciated. Especially before telling pyang. 2 cases pyang? I think the Mafia is going to have to talk to some of our Teamster friends and see what they can do. You might not end up with your 2 cases afterall.

Sam's also has a good price on the 2000 Duhart Milon at $17.14 bottle/205.68 case. Best price on winesearcher.com is $22.00. I also just saw it at One World Market for $45+.

Grossie: Thanks for the note on La Croix de Casse.

Pyang,

Hmmmmm. I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that I was at Sams today and ended up buying 3 cases of wine total (including 2 cases of Duhart-Milon that a friend found just sitting there in the shipping department for me).

Anyone Mafia members want some of Pyang's Duhart?

Sam's is close to getting on my sh!t list...

Just talked to them about two recent orders, Duhart wasn't filled due to they don't pay attention to e-mail time stamp. The 2001 Togni mags wasn't filled because they couldn't get it from the distributor, yet, wasn't noted as futures on their website... Mad

I hate to say I told you so, but.... Wait! I love to say I told you so! Pyang- listen to what I've been saying- Sam's has no respect for their customers. I buy from them only when there's a significant price break.
