If you find an idiot to pay that much for a bottle of Paloma Merlot let us know. I'm sure we would all like to try to latch on to this sucker and unload some wine that we would never unload elsewhere for an over-inflated, rating-driven price.

$125

I was totally amazed someone paid $96 a bottle for my lot back in December. I should have held out!

BTW - Go buy a great St. Emilion for this price!

Did you mean $12.50 or $125?

The wine sells for 125.00 a bottle in the current market no need to knock him. Its just that these boards is the wrong place to market the wine because most here know what its worth.

... and MANY here bought early and often, and are now selling at an admirable profit to trophy hunters.

It's kind of like walking into a car sales convention and asking if anyone wants to buy a full underbody rust treatment. Big Grin

Sorry to have ruffled so many feathers. I bought two bottles of the Paloma before the spectator review came out, liked the one bottle I opened but it didn't blow me away.

Decided to sell the other bottle because I don't care about having a "wine of the year" and because of the demand for the wine and high price it is fetching on the internet. I generally can't afford (or would not spend) $125 on a bottle of wine so this is a nice way to "trade up".

As for the price, if someone is willing to pay it, it isn't overpriced. Tons of people out there really want this wine as shown by the sales on e-bay and wine commune. There is nothing unique or "ballsy" going on, simple economics. Plug the wine into winesearcher and see what the going rate is. Everytime a hot new car comes out is is sold for a few thousand over msrp. Tickets in high demand are sold for $$$. This happens every day.

Should I be selling at my purchase price? Wish someone in San Francisco would sell me there aged Bordeaux (or their house) at their purchase price.

If you aren't interested, so be it, but what is the big deal?

i dont think the people on these boards disagree with why you are asking your price - it's just that you are posting on a message board of, for the most part, well informed enthusiasts who are passionate about wine. they know what the price was when it came out and know why the price is what it is now - the big deal is your dealing with a thing that is a love & passion for some people, and of course they're going to tell you their mind. there's a reason multiple people on EBay or Winebid.com will pay $125 for the Paloma, and a reason why you get the response you did on these boards - different market. people come here to talk about their passion, people go to WineCommune to buy wine and make $$$.

I appreciate the comments. I love wine and am passionate about it as well. I posted here because this is the buying and selling board, and because I have sold wine through this forum before.

Yes there is a buying and selling slot on this board. But for the most part people that buy and sell here are doing others a favor and selling at a reasonable price to recoop money and buy other stuff. If you are going to try and get a current so called market value you are better of going to winecommune.
Usually most people on this and other boards get the jump on these wines before or soon after the ratings come out so when someone thinks they are going to sell something at a high price like you tried everyone is going to pounce on them.
No foul though and no hard feelings. But you will get a better responce on winecommune then here. Thats were I sell. Big Grin

you will find that many of us here are genuine smart-asses as well as enthusiasts. The glory of written text is that you cannot perceive tru emotion. Get what you can....the mark up to me is extraordinary to say the least, but no one would rail you if someone was willing to buy at your price. Simply supply and demand!

If you are interested in an even trade I might have an evtra bottle of 2001 Pride Cab. Both got a 95 (although Pride did have a "+" in Parker's rating) and they both sell for way over the original price.

What's wrong with capitalizing on the WOTY award? I don't blame him for selling it. I haven't tried it, and likely never will, but some idiot will pay $125 for this wine. Amazing! Think about all the Pomerols and St Emilions you could buy for the same $$$.

I agree this is probably the wrong place to try selling as anyone that frequents these boards regularly know how much we love bitching about wine prices and how ratings affect price/availability Big Grin

BTW... Anyone want to buy cases of D'Arenberg Dead Arm 98/99/00 for $100/bottle???? Big Grin Wink RP rated these all 96-98+ so they must be worth at least 2 or 3 times what I paid for them....

I can't believe you guys are mocking a true Capitalist. What happened to the American way??? Supply and Demand meet unbridled consumerism. Ya baby Ya! Smile

Besides, $125 is a steal. One bottle sold on eBay for $258.50USD.

$125$ Is that what this wine is moving for now? My goodness. $40 per for a case back in October was a steal!!

It does drink very nicely, however.
