I wouldn't exactly call that making room. I'd call it selling off mostly mediocre wines that you don't want to drink. I'd suggest potential buyers of these wines do a little research before pulling the trigger.

Just one more sip.

IMO this is the best of the bunch, relatively speaking. Not a bad price for an excellent wine.

are the prices in line with auction prices or wine-searcher prices? Are they cheaper?

Board-O, why is it that you are the self designated police, I would assume that people here are free to choose and buy what they please, or do they need your approval and permission when selecting bottles, perhaps if you were to create your own wine bulletin board it may satisfy your control issues Wink

mikey, if you knew anything about wine, you'd see that much of the wine for sale in this thread is mediocre. I didn't tell people not buy it. I siad they ought to check carefully what they considered purchasing. I'm not the police here. Actually, you are the one doing the policing here. I'm not telling Matt what to post or not post. You're the one doing that.

I think you should buy it, all of it. I'm certain you'll love the 1966 Margaux, 1976 Latour, 1979 Mouton, 1983 Mouton, the Silver Oaks and Opus. I hope you'll post tasting notes. I sure am going to be envious.

Just one more sip.

do you make a post in every sales thread where there are sales of mediocre wines?

or just the ones you deem necessary.

I'm going to stand up and defend Board-O on this one. All he did was offer his opinion that the majority of wines that are being offered are mediocre (we are all entitled to our opinions), and he cautioned potential buyers to do some research before buying. Before buying. He didn't say "don't buy the wine", he said "make sure you know what you are buying".

That is sage advice.

Frankly, if it were me, I'd warn potential buyers to be very careful of buying wines from anyone who is a new member of WS and who has few posts. No disrespect intended to Matt H, but I am skeptical when someone registers on the WS website, writes a couple of posts, and then tries to sell thousands of dollars worth of wine to WS members.

If you want to buy these wines, then I'll echo what Board-O said: research your wines. And be careful with the transaction as well.

It seems that in these bad economic days, we are going to see more sellers on this site. Already I see more posts from people offering to sell dozens and dozens of bottles of wine. Some (maybe Matt H included) are going to be legitimate, respectable sellers. Some may not.

Caveat Emptor.

Well, I am going to have to concide on this one! Board-O, you are certainly correct about these wines, however I would offer one cavit, history has shown that the top producers will make good wines regardless of vintage. Those that control their vineyards and fruit tend to still produce quality despite difficult conditions, this is what seperates the "cream from top"! Now I will also concide that a few of these are not "top producers" rather just good consumer wineries! That being said, I am sure that with the vast cross section of people here in this forum, we have all encountered an "off vintage wine" that was still great! I personally have found that great values can be had in "off vintages"! I often shop the "off vintages" for myself!

Now it is also well know that I am a bit of an antagonist from time to time, my issue came with implied thought that the forum members needed a bit of education prior to purchase, certainly I am no Fred Dame, however I do believe that we should be encouraging people here to educate themselves through "drinking" these wines rather than the thought that they should be wary. ......

Board-O, I got nothin but love ya!!!!and would truely enjoy sharing an "off vintage gem" with you anytime, I am frequently in the NY area....
