I've yet to see this wine stateside in any real quantities. We all know it scored 100pts in our dear Wine Spectator. The question is, does anyone want any, and at what price?
I have a friend in Italy that has direct access to the Casanova di Neri farm and can get the wine - she did this for me for the '01 Tenuta Nuova. The price ain't cheap, but it's far below what I see it auctioning off for on Wine Commune, etc.
Let me be clear here. I'm not looking to make money on this. This wine is too expensive for me to order an entire case on my own, however, if I could somehow find a way to split a case, that would be good. I'm on the east coast in the US. Reply here or shoot me an email if you'd like to discuss maybe combining our purchase power.
Thanks and happy drinking!

The estimated cost, after shipping, would be about $200/btl. This would be for 1 case. After that, the price dips a little. It's about 135E/case for shipping - fully insured. When I had my friend ship the Tenuta Nuova last May (9 cases) it took less than 4 days to arrive from Italy. Perfectly boxed in styrofoam and not a single dent to any of the boxes.
I'd be happy to supply you with more info if I am able to obtain it. Ask away.
What I'm wondering is whether this is a good price? Too high? I kind of don't have anything to measure it against at this time.
Thanks,
Paul

God .....it seems ridiculous to say that $200 a bottle for a recently released Brunello is "fair." Based on the release price of $165, the effect on pricing caused by Suckling's review and the fact that the wine is being quick shipped from Europe I think it is a fair price. Low winesearcher in Italy shows at $192, and most shops in Italy list it at or over $200.
I'd probably be interested in a couple if things pan out.

I was at Casanova Di Neri last week and tasted all of their lineup. I was very impressed. They would only let us buy one 2001 cerratalto per person, and they had zero of the 2001 tenuta nuova left. Just up the hill at Fortezza enoteca in Montalcino the Cerratalto was going for 180E per bottle. Roughly $252 US. So $200 per bottle is a steal. Also we paid $200 per case for shipping.

Well, that's debatable. "Steal" is a little strong here. Considering that the 99 was just $69 a few months ago, and arguably very close in quality to the '01, I would say that $200 is not even close to a deal, not to mention a steal.
Now if someone "just has to have" this wine, then the price is probably right up their alley.
Check around on wine auction sites. The last one I checked, 2 bottles of the 01 Cerratalto went for $550, that’s $275 per bottle plus shipping. I guess a "steal" would be up to the individual buying the wine, but I consider a 100 point wine from a producer that had a 100 pointer and the wine of the year, in the same year, a steal. Wait for a couple of years when the Casanova name hits main stream like a Mouton Rothschild and see what that $200 bottle is worth in the years to come.
Not to bring to life an old topic, but it is just as well that the deal fell through. We had 2 cases shipped when we visited the winery in June. Both cases arrived "cooked" with the corks popped out and wine inside the shipping container. To date, 5 months later Casanova Di Neri will not help us resolve this issue. I am just warning you that if you deal with Pier at the winery he will not help you if anything goes wrong.

I am sorry for your loss but most never ship wine...much less a wine of this caliber...in the summer months. June-August are the worst. Most places will not assume liability for wine shipped in summer months.
Now prepare to take a beating from the rest of the forum members...

Sorry for your loss...but, warm weather shippng is not a good idea. Seems it would be more the shippers liability than the winery. You were insured, right?
A half case finally arrived up here a few months ago. I feel fortunate to now have 3 (bottles)...
Be good and you will be lonesome. S.L. Clemens
