I am new to this forum and if I am breaking any unwritten rules of conduct, I will apologize upfront. In addition, I will say that I am a novice to futures and buying first growths. I have tasted them and love most of them, yet I cannot say that I have bought any in bulk.
With that said, I am looking for a 21st year birthday wine for my 3 yr daughter (2003 vintage I am looking for the best in the first growth bordeaux category for each year. Obviously the best now does not matter; the best in 2024 and 2026 is what matters (and I don't have a crystal ball |

The first thing is to have a plan to store these wines properly. If you don't have proper storage, get it first.
This is probably not the best place to score 2003 and 2005 First Growths. Buy a subscription to WineSearcher's Professional Version and use it to locate the wines, or you can visit any of the major auction houses online to make your buys. Your kids are lucky, not only in the years of their birth but that they have a dad who will buy them this kind of 21st birthday present. Good luck! PH |

That's a really great gift for your kids, I was born in 84'. We all know how stellar bordeaux was that year

Thank you, PurpleHaze, for your guidance. I believe that the subscription you mention sounds like a good place to start. I do have the wine cabinet for storage that is set to the perfect temp and humidity for red wine storage. Much appreciate the direction.
Hank, '84 was a very good year. |

Hank, there are some very great Cabs from CA from the 1984 vintage. The Diamond Creek Lake is one of the best wines I've ever had, but it won't come cheap.
Just one more sip. |

I was born in 1956. There was nothing that I know of worth drinking made in this year... PH This message has been edited. Last edited by: PurpleHaze, |

PH, if yopu were conceived in 1955, there's a whole bunch of great Bordeaux waiting for your zygote to claim it.
Just one more sip. |

Interesting spin, Board-O! Although the thought of me being conceived makes me oogy. PH This message has been edited. Last edited by: PurpleHaze, |

Another thought about wines that may last that long. you may want to look at Sauternes and Ports. Both years will be good years for either products. Ports will most likely last a bit longer and be more economical.
