I do a lot of 'ebay' (since 98). I would recco to stay away from any wine offered there. It seems to be a place where sellers seek out fools. Just last week there were two examples of it. I would then tell you that winecommune is somewhat the same premise of auctionering, but much safer, and in the company of like minded buyers and sellers. Which I am both.
I find ebay great for books, camera equiptment, and the like. An informed buyer will almost always do well there.

I agree with mike p. Ebay is a whole lot iffy-er for wine, or any consumable. The main problem in my opinion is provenance. On WineCommune the folks buy and sell only wine, whereas on ebay you get a lot more novices who found some bottle after cleaning out Uncle Charlie's garage, not to mention a lot more scam artists who may only possess a picture of said bottle.

I was also going to say that I would never buy wine on eBay. I hear all kinds of scams going on there. It would be impossible to tell the real from the scams, unfortunately because there are probably some legit wine sellers on there too.
