I'd like some of the '92 and '94 you recently picked up. Actually, how about just giving me your vertical? Razz

futronic,

Help me find some 1993's and I'll invite you one hell of an offline!! Big Grin The 1993 was one of my initial "lightbulb" Tuscans. Responsible for a whole lot of purchases after that. I had purchased it at my favorite store and let it sit around for 2-3 weeks before I tried it. It knocked me out, and I immediately called my guy (glass in hand) to have him hold some for me. He'd sold the last 6 bottles the day before! Mad (at $42 US each Eek) The only ones I've been able to find are in England, and the shipping is as much as the wine!! I may have to do it, but I want to exhaust my North American options first.

Well, hopefully you're able to find the '93. When at the winery in May, Jurij said that he tasted the '92 a few months prior, and it was stellar.

I'm officially inviting myself over whenever you open the whole lot. Big Grin

mwagner7700 & futronic,

Consider yourselves invited. I can't think of two people who would enjoy these more. Will keep you posted. And keep your eyes out for the elusive 1993's....

PH,

Try this form from Wine Library. I've heard they are very good about getting wines... but a '93 may be difficult.

mwagner7700,

No, Frown although they responded quickly. The current release is all they can get. I have noticed in some winesearcher.com inquiries on other wines that they consistenly appear among the lower priced retailers. Is their service and reliability good? I'm considering adding them to my growing list of mail order suppliers.

As far as the 1993 is concerned, it's looking like Europe is my only option. Between my concerns about shipping/handling and the potential import/security issues, I'm not sure if I'm going to do it.

Wine Library is my favorite wine shop. Although I don't have to ship it to my place (I can just take a 15 minute drive to the store), you can't go wrong. The sales people at the store are incredibly nice, and you can't beat the price (at least not here in NJ).

There was an article in the local paper on the owner (Gary) a few months back. It used to be his father's liquor shop. Gary took it over when he graduated college, and wanted to turn it into the biggest and best wine store around. He eats his profits. They gave an example of one wine (I forget which) that Gary was selling at a profit of 8%, while the next lowest price in NJ was selling at 22% profit!!!

My only complaint... not the greatest Italian selection... especially Tuscan. Frown

I have seen some past offerings on Winecommune, etc... but not recent offerings.

You can also try Zachy's in NY. I think they have one of the greatest Italian selections around. Maybe they can get it. But it does seem like Europe is it. Why not take a trip. I'm sure fut can give you some great recs. on places to stay.

mwagner7700,

Thanks for the update on Wine Library. They sound like good people. I'll give them a try! I do a bit of business with Zachy's and have had very good luck with them. I do find them to be high priced for the most part, however when they have sales they can be very competetive. I bought 90% of my 1999 Brunelli there and a ton of 1996 Bordeaux which I've never seen priced similarly before or after. Thanks again!

PH,

Would like to help you but I have only one 1993 left in the cellar Frown I drank one with Jurij at the winery last month and it was still a baby! We also drank the 2002 which is great given the otherwise poor vintage. I also was lucky to be the first to try his new white wine from bottle (2003), a chardonnay with a touch of Gewurtz. Yummy!

I'll keep an eye out for another 1993 for you both here and next time in Italy (probably February).

Ciao

Eno,

I was wondering when you were going to chime in on this thread! Smile

I hope Jurij, Leonardo, and his new bride are doing well. Say hello to Mrs. Eno for me!

The 2001 is being released here at the end of the week, and I can't wait to get my hands on them. It is an excellent wine, and has a very long life ahead of it in the cellar.

Enosela,

Thanks much for the info. If you find any anywhere, I would be extremely grateful. If you travel to Italy next year and think you might find some there, e-mail me at purplehaze1956 at yahoo dot com before you depart and I'll give you my phone numbers where you can call me collect if you discover any.

Grazie!

futronic,

It will feel even better to finish the vertical tasting than to finish the vertical acquisition! As soon as I can get some backups for my single bottles, the offline is on!! I Ricci in DC is looking like the perfect kitchen to back this one up. Big Grin

Thought I'd revive this thread. I was able to find one bottle, but would love to have a backup before I pop this one! Any new posters or veterans able to help me on this would have my undying gratitude!!

The story of how I came to get the bottle that completed my vertical is a great one. A Virginia wine lover had "googled" 1993 Il Carbonaione to get some information on the producer to share with his friends at an upcoming Tuscan tasting. He stumbled across my thread, and e-mailed me. He said that he was planning on opening his last 1993 at this tasting, but if I hadn't already found a bottle, he would substitute another wine into the lineup would sell or trade me his 1993. We struck a deal and I mailed him one of my 1999 Il Carbonaiones (he was excited to try it) and he sent me the 1993.

As has been mentioned on these boards many times, it's not just about the wine, but the people! This guy didn't know me from Adam, and took the time and effort to help another wino out. What a good fellow! Cool

Thanks for the suggestion. I never though of it. I barely have the time to keep up with one board, much less 2 but if I don't have any luck here I'll take your suggestion. Appreciate you thinking of it. Smile

re-bump....

Still looking for at least one backup bottle of this wine. Any newbies or others who haven't read this plea, please respond.

The only commercially available bottles I have found are in England, so.........any formumites who are travelling from that side of the pond to this one, I'd gladly make it worth your while to haul a few bottles stateside.

HELP!!!
