Since this is my first post here, and I can tell that newbie’s can get roughed up a bit, I will try to give you the necessary info…if not lets discuss. I live in Lehigh Valley of East PA and would be happy to get together with a trusted member of this group for a tasting, and you can report back to the group.

Provenance:
I recently acquired these wines when I purchased a 20yr old storage unit. The cooling unit was replaced 5 yrs ago. The original owner had a medical condition (stroke??) and lost interest in wine. His wife sold off the unit and wine to me when they moved. A lesson here…you can’t take it with you so Drink UP!!

Condition: (I am happy to email photos to anyone who is interested)
Most of these wines have low to midneck fills but not all of the capsules twist, and some have minor corrosion. Most show some minor torn scuffed or slightly stained labels.

I popped open one each of the Latour, Lafite, La Misson Haut Brion, and Mouton at various times this summer. Each one was quite an experience for me since I have only ever tasted one other 1st growth a’78 Mouton. I was surprised that corks on some of these wines were damp ~50% through the cork. Each of the wines was deep dark in color with barely a hint of red on the rim. They opened up within ~30 minutes in the glass to offer some of the most balanced wines I have tasted. That said, they didn’t wow me 10-20 times over my current top wines in my cellar. ie; 95 Monbousquet, 90 Lynch Bages. Perhaps my palette isn’t trained enough to appreciate the nuances in these big guys, or storage condition were less than optimal…remember the cooling unit was replaced 5-yrs ago, or these wines really do need another 5-20+ yrs to reach their peak.

Either way, I am looking to trade some of these to get more wines to enjoy now and to lay down for special occasions in the future.

I have to trade:

8 Lafite
4 Mouton
2 Latour
2 Margaux (labels moldy)
2 La Misson Haut Brion
2 LaTour Haut Brion
2 LaTour Figeac

I’m looking to trade for:

00 and 04 wines to lay down for my two kids.
01 Sauternes
Cali Cabs, Pinot, Zins, Syrah
Rhone, Chateauneuf du Pape
Loire dry and sticky whites

I may be interested in trading/buying all of these. I live outside of Philadelphia and would enjoy getting together with you and a couple of other serious collector friends of mine to talk about this further (over wine ofcourse). Please email me at jepollakATyahooDOTcom.
