Some of my reps are getting me some different wines. Tell me if these wines are good and if the price is fair. Buyer pays shipping.

1973 Cht. Latour $299
1990 Cht. Grand Puy Ducasse $69
1998 Cht. Margaux $225
1999 Cht. Latour $349
1999 Cht. Petrus $799
2001 Cht. Latour $399
2004 Caymus Napa $59, only 12 bottles

Once I get the price of my 2003 Latour and Margaux i will post that as well.

Thanks.

You're buying from the wrong sources. I don't see any deals on your list.

Sorry to say that, but if these are your wholesale price, good luck to you. Our local mighty pricey monopoly LCBO is offering this special high price Latour right now. And they look quite on par with your cost, maybe you should consider buying from them....Btw, these prices are Canadian taxes in.

I have to buy from the distributors, but even if i didn't unless I hold the bottles, they won't be any cheaper from me. What about the 73 latour and the Napa Caymus? Are those even close to a deal?

This is a problem you will encounter more often than not. I have a small collection from my parents' restaurant. When I went to sell some of them, as well as my other wines; I had to pretty much take a loss or break even, at best.
The big vendors are adjusting their prices by demand, based on scores. They are now getting their WS scores before we get them online, and their mark-up's have increased quite a bit.
In california, If you have a physical store front or restaurant; You can't buy from anyone but a licensed distributor. If you sell online. however: you can buy from the producer and pay distributor prices. That's why there are so many variations in retail pricing. Some retailers are paying distributor costs for their merchandise. Eventually. the bottom is going to drop out for every small, retail wine shop, that can't compete with the internet.
I was shocked when I offered my cousin my Cinque Cepages, at $5 per bottle above cost- ($53 from SW&S), and she told me that her husband could get it a lot cheaper.
So, if you are trying to sell to serious collectors, who are always looking for a great deal; you have to adjust your prices, or stick with your physical customer base. Frown

I don't know if this helps or not, but here is auction data for a couple of your wines ... looks like the prices are a little high.

6/28/2006 $120.00 1 BT 1973 CHATEAU LATOUR - Pauillac (VSLC)
10/5/2006 $140.00 1 BT 1998 CHATEAU MARGAUX - Margaux

Prices seem high.
Why Latour 73? Is it a request? Otherwise I'd avoid for many reasons.
