Anyone have any wines from 71 that are still showing well & would be willing to part with?
If so please email me at "differentdave at yahoo dot com"
I realize this is a shot in the dark but worth a try none the less.
Thanks,
Dave

It's a difficult year, dave. It was a decent but short-lived year in Bordeaux, and a good to very good year in Burgundy, but again, relatively short-lived. Maybe a Chave Hermitage from the Rhone might still be showing very well, and then there's the DRC or Leroy Burgundies. Good luck.

Just one more sip.

Laube just wrote in his Blog about the 1971 Grange. He gave it 100pts. Wine-Searcher shows a few in the $600 range.

Thus far I have the
Noval Port
Petrus (gift from former employer, longest bottle I have had (he have it to me in 99) and i have done nothing but look at it once or twice a year)
A few nothing to metion reislings
The d'yquem and the grange are both on my radar, both cost a pretty penny.

Ooops! I forgot about the Petrus. That's not the first one I've forgotten. The 1971 Petrus is a stunning wine, an anomaly for the vintage.

Just one more sip.

'71 was a very fine year for N. Italy, you should be able to find some nice Barolo & Barbaresco fairly reasonable priced.

Not looking to sell, but this is what I have squirreled away for the same reasons as you.

(2) Ch. Climens - research indicates many thought it was wine of the vintage.

(1) Ch. Latour - supposedly pristine storage up til now. I plan to open this next month.

A few '70 Ports, close enough I suppose.

I too read Suckling's recent report on the '71 Grange. It may be a candidate for the big 4-0 in a few years if I come across a deal between now and then.

Being born in 1971, I'm usually on the lookout, but those big boys are a little out of my league.

I've had the 1971 Leoville Las Cases a couple of times, and it was enjoyable. I gave it 87pts on quality both times... much more on nostalgic value.

I'm sitting on a '71 Cos d'Estournel that I plan to open when child #3 is born in Feb/Mar. I had one previously that was a little leaky, and I'm thinking this is in much better shape so will show better.

I was born in 71 so am always on the lookout. Barolo and Barbaresco are definitely worth the look. Champagne is also worth looking at, however, those will be expensive. It was also a good vintage for German Rieslings.

I too, will join the crowd as a '71er.

I have looked at the Grange a couple of times, but it is pricey. There appear to be a few barolo's popping up on Winebid or Wine Commune from time to time and those are an option.

I have a spatlese riesling and a Prince Florent de Merode Corton Clos du Roi waiting so far for the 40th celebration, so if we all do get together, I will bring those with me.

Sign me up, Dave! Lentini + 1. Fortunately my "+ 1" is also a 1971er, so we can let her drink.

We've got a couple of years to shop... Maybe with the market crashing we can get a good deal on a Grange.

Dale... Michigan to NY, not that long a drive!

I'd also be up for the get together if it materializes. It would be a very cool party. Put me down for the Climens.

You might have to deal with some 1981 wines too.

I have an office in NY and friends there as well from college and so would definitely be up for a little birthday in 2011 get together. I am April 27, so I looks like I get there first, and will bring my Burgundy and Riesling with me as my contributions.

with the early confirmations and declarations, this is going better than any offline that I have tried to put together here!! New york, here we come.
