So after really urging these guys not to, they refuse to listen. I buy wine on behalf of a couple guys here in Miami with a little too much money and even more ego. Regardless of my begging them not to, they insist. They want to drink a 99 or 100 point cali cab just for the WS or RP point score. It breaks my heart but it is what it is.

Is anyone here selling something along these lines? They're looking to spend no more than $300 and I told them I could find something in that price range (worst case I'll buy some 05 Quilceda Creek Cab, I'm sure they won't care).

I realize how ridiculous this is, but oh well.

If you have something you want to sell, jorge at artisanmg dot com

Regretfully,

Why? Because they want to see what a professionally reviewed 99 or 100 point wine is like? What should break your heart is that ridiculous steak with white wine combo.

Just one more sip.

jorge- take a deep breath, close your eyes, and take in what is beautiful; LIFE!

It sounds like your in a "sales" position. I have a feeling if you inquire on "how to sell those with money who are willing to spend the buco dolores" on high point cali cabs who really don't know any better" you may be able to steer them in another direction. Smile

I think this could be a great deal of fun. My input would be to do WineBid. In your range how about '01 Pride Reserve, '06 Schrader RBS, '97 and '01 Shafer HSS. Those all fall well below your range.

BTW....I would go '01 Shafer!!! (around $250 all in)

You're missing this

Board-O tends to get very touchy when he disagrees with things, but it turned out to be pretty interesting. We'll see what sort of comments come back regarding the white with the steak, but I can't see much. Like someone else said, I doubt the people choosing a white to pair with strip steak are big on wine in the first place.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with someone wanting to buy a 100 point rated wine to see what it tastes like. I did that once, buying a 1982 LLC just because it was rated 100.

It's another thing if someone wants to only buy wines rated RP 95 or higher, for example. That seems to be just point-chasing. But I think it would be helpful for someone to try a 100 point cab, just to get a feel for what the rater thinks is a "perfect" cab. You might agree or disagree with that rater, in which case you'll be a bit more educated in the buying process, by being able to select raters who most closely match your own palate for buying advice.

I'm all for trying a 100-point wine, but I think there's a lot more to it than that. I think, just because of the cost, you should research a little what it is you like and why you want a specific 100-point wine. Not just "go get me a 100 point wine because". To each his own, but for a group of guys who really don't have a lot of wine tasting experience, I'd much rather have them continue to learn and develop certain things about wine before just delving into a 100-pointer because one critic said it was.

Again, i'm clearly not adoment about not doing it otherwise I would've just said no. And frankly, I'll get to try it free, so I'm all for it. I'm just not ecstatic about posting a bulletin asking for 100-point wine just because. I'm sure if I just would've said "I'm looking for a 100-pointer just because it was rated 100 points, please send me offers" I'd be getting all kinds of smack from a whole other bunch of people.

Regardless, thanks to the couple of people who have emailed me, and I look forward to tasting a 100-point wine and posting notes.

If they are buying it, why does it matter what you want or think? How about letting the ones footing the bill decide?

Just asking.

I guess you could decide not to help. Your loss.

BTW, if anyone here wants me to get them a 100 pointer, they're willing to pay for it, and they're willing to share it with me, let me know. I don't give a rat's keyster what your motivation is............

Apparently you guys haven't seen 1982 Lafite + Sprite + Ice.

If it does indeed break your heart, buy something that you care for the least, should a bottle of that vanish from this world.

It breaks Georgey Speedo's heart that they want to see what a 99 or 100 point wine tastes like. He's fine with with drinking a Chardonnay with a NY Strip. Georgey has a lot to learn. Sigh. It breaks my heart. Sigh. Is that histrionic enough?

Just one more sip.
