Maybe her next book can be the Kevin Zralyization of the world or the Hugh Johnsonization of the world. Razz

I am so glad you guys asked me to show up. You had great questions for me. Were really interested in a dialogue, which is rare in this world. Much appreciated.

So without giving away the plot, what is your message?

Are we safe from Parkerization? The man has the power to make or possibly break wineries and whole regions.

What, in your view, IS Parkerization? And if it's giving the majority of punters what [they think] they want, is that a bad thing?

Or is the book not really about Parkerization at all, and you're secretly beginning to regret the title? Wink

Oh, and one last question: What kinds of wine do/would you buy?

I like the title. As we see here, everyone into wine knows exactly what the title means, Dave Tong's pretend innocence aside. "Parkerization" is a common topic on these boards whenever Spanish wine or Australian wine comes up. I think I'll seek out the book and give it a fair read.

I will give it a read as well. Welcome to the forums.

"Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams . If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

Interesting thread. Alice can her book anything she damn well likes; for God's sake its ONLY a title of book. Some people need to find the "Life Shop" and see if they can buy one! Wink

Just had my new book published; “How I Saved the World from Aussie Swill and the Torbidization of Wine”.
Hey, it’s only a title.

Big Grin Love it! Wink

Do you mind if I trade mark "TORBidization" - thats an absolute classic that will go down in the annals of history. When I threw that grenade in, I never expected that response. Well done mate!!

Cheers

Alice,

Thanks for dropping in to participate; very stand-up of you. I may be able to get an advance copy through my employer, and look forward to reading it.

Oddly enough, some guy named John Holmes caused the Johnsonization of the world.

Reading this thread sounds like a Jesse Jackson speech -

"I feel that NOW is the time to make a proclamation calling for the emancipation of these grapes which have long suffered under this aberration known to the world as Parkerization".

The over-the-top self promotion of the title reminds me more of Al Sharpton than Jesse Jackson.

The title is hyperbole. It's a literary technique. She's a writer.

No it is hubris.

I understand English, Latin, French and a smattering of Italian and Russian, but thank you for the lesson.

Wait, CDR, are you defending a title that includes a description as "[a]...one-woman crusade... in search of ...terroir-driven champagnes...?" Big Grin

Note - I fully acknowledge my misleading editing of that quote to jest with the esteemed CDR Wink
