You folks are hitting all the right notes...anyone put the '05s from Olivier Hillaire in their cellar? He really rocked in the vintage...

Yup. Both the Tradition and the Les Petits d'Armand. He did rock!

Thanks to your advice James Moleworth, I finally found an importer in San Francisco who has had my 25 cases or so of CDR's picked up from my wife's uncle's cave near Avignon. Should have it home in Texas when the weather cools this fall. I have mostly Domaine de la Mordoree',starting with 2003 vintage, a case or two of the 2005 CNP, a bottle of La Plume de Pienture, and quite a bit of their Lirac La Reine de Bois. Believe that explains what I will mostly be drinking. Virgil McCaleb

Absolutely!

Then I was worried when wiml gave it a so-so review.

anyone read the '05 CdP review in the May issue of Decanter? it wasn't very glowing really.

They only gave 4 wines 5 stars, one of them being the Cuvee Du Vatican Reserve Sixtine which was recently released here in Ontario.

The other odd thing I noticed is that out of the 197 wines they tasted, Clos des Papes wasn't one of them. I wonder if that's because it was WS WOY?

Beaucastel
Vieux Donjon

Maybe Clos du Mont Olivet and/or Clos des Papes if I can find a couple of bottles.

Been more of a Bordeaux collector (to the extend that I collect at all...only have room for ~220 bottles) than CdP, but that's starting to change a little! Smile

I think 05 Clos des Papes is highly overrated. If you need to offload your stock, let me know. As a courtesy, I would even buy them off you at cost! Cool

Hmmm, just checked my records. Only 9 bottles of '05 CdP so far--thought I had more. I went nuts on '05 Bordeaux instead.

So far:
Beaucastel
Bosquet des Papes
Pegau
Vieux Telegraphe

I picked up an issue of Decanter last summer and there was an article on '05 Rhones (cover story). Essentially it said "with all the hype of '05 Burgundy and Bordeaux, don't forgot about the Rhones." Kind of funny they gave the vintage so-so reviews. I believe I remember Clos des Papes, Vieux Telegraphe La Crau and Beaucastel getting 5 stars.

I've picked up some 05 Donjon, 05 Barroche pure. I was also looking at the 05 cristia renaissance, but at the price of $100.00 I decided to purchase the 04 renaissance instead. Picked up 6 for $50.00 each(sale). Considering I paid $40.00 for the 2000 renaissance, a number of the 05 CDP's are not the bargains they used to be. I am Still searching for the Barroche pure, but I'm thinking my search will be futile. I've heard that only 36 bottles entered the province of alberta. I'm considering picking up some 05 Barroche 'fiance', 05 barroche 'reserve', 05 grand tinel 'alexis establet'. The gand tinel wines never seem to get much press. The alexis for $48.00 seems to be a good deal. If James or any others have any opinions on these 3 bottlings I would appreciate the input. Also looking at the 04 cristia vieilles vignes(sale for $45.00).

SD-Wineaux,

I loved the 2004 Clos des Papes. Maybe it is more accessible but it has been my favorite of the tri since 2003.

Thanks, that's good to hear, Mimik. I'm glad that I'd picked up a case, but I still don't plan to touch any for at least a few more years.

I have been on the fence with the Beaucastel and Pegau. Does anyone have any thoughts? Which one would you rather have in your cellar?
