MPLS WINE GUY-

How about some suggestions? I'm new to this, and I'd love some suggestions on non-sh#$%y wines...although I really don't think the wine I listed above would be in that catagory...possibly not superb, but not the "s" word.

Mine changes regularly as I rarely buy more than a case of one type of wine.

It was D'Arenberg Custodian Grenache ($15US) up until recently and lately it has been J&F Lurton Reserve Malbec ($10US) and Montes Alpha Cab ($15US).

I don't drink everyday and rarely drink at home. When I buy "everyday drinkers" they tend to sit in my cellar until I have a party or some other reason to bring a gift bottle. Unless I'm planning on drinking it that day then, the wines I buy anymore tend to for cellaring and are more expensive than what I would consider to be an "everyday wine".

2001 Windsor Oaks Chalk Hill Cabernet. Wonderful wine at around $18. If you see it, I highly recommend you buy a bottle.

291, I haven't tried Bruno Rocca's dolcetto. I'll keep a look out for it, although I don't think I've seen it in this area.

MPLS -- I too would like to hear what you are drinking everyday ... I dont think you should get away with a cheap slam and run... Wink

For this year, I am thinking of pulling the trigger on a case of Caillou CdR Bousquet Garriges for (one of) my everyday wines of 2004. I have a bead on it at $13.50 a bottle.

Our everyday red is yet another D'Arenberg (the third listed here by my count), the D'Arry's Original grenache/shiraz blend for about CAD$19.

And for whites we have two: Nobilo sauvignon blanc for CAD$15 and Hanwood chard for CAD$12.

snow sucks, cold is worse.......

No doubt about the 01 Hanna but I would hardly call that an everyday wine. $22/bottle is a little steep for everyday. How about those $10 deals. I've been going for these lately.
01 Castle Rock $9
01 Rodney Strong $10
Chateau Ste Michelle $10

I don't have one wine that I drink most of the time, but some of my "go-to" QPR's include:

Simple, easy wines that you wouldn't want to pay more for:

Borsao Campo de Borja 2001/2002 $6
Torres Sangre de Toro Catalunya 2001 $8
E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone 2000 $10
di Majo Norante Sangiovese Terra degli Osci 2001 $9
Castel Pietraio Chianti Colli Senesi 2001 $10
Poggio Vignoso Chianti 2002 $8
Codice 2001/2002 $7

More complex wines that are exceptional values:

Terrale primitivo 2001 $6/bottle
A Mano Primitive Puglia 2001 $10
Morgante Nero D'Avola Sicilia 2001 $10
Casa Castillo Jumilla Monastrell 2001 $8
Monte Antico Toscano 2000 $11

Sorry that I don't have the time to link these to posted tasting notes, but a search will turn up some reviews on this board.
