Last year, your 2002 Online Bordeaux Report appeared on the website on April 2nd. Should we expect this years report about the same time? When will you be tasting the 2003's?

Thanks in advance.

I am looking forward to Mr Suckling's report. I have heard that many estates did better in 2003 than 2000.

I have heard many did worse, much worse.

This is a pickers vintage, unlike 2000 which was the best in decades. Before jumping whole hog on these, read from as many sources as you can.

Also, prices will be higher, if for no other reason than the euro's reversal in valuation against the dollar.

If I buy, I will be very very selective.

I'll back up dr.t on this one.

I've read some pretty "bad" things about the vintage. Certainly it was a hot one, but some think it was too hot. I've heard reports of some vineyards having a "raisin" flavor in the wines along with V.A. and extreme sweetness. I've also heard that some had problems with the heat during fermentation as well as problems of dehydration of the grapes both on the vines and those that were left in bins for too long during picking and sorting. From what I've read it looks like there will be some good/great wines, but a WIDE range in quality across the board. I think Le Pin actually refused to make a 2003 wine if I'm not mistaken, because they felt like the grapes were killed from the heat?

I've also heard that too much heat is better than too much rain. And, that this vintage may end up being classified along the lines of other "hot weather", generally good vintages like '47/'49 and '89.

Dr.T,

Prices will most likely be higher than 2001 and 2002 Bordeaux. However, Robert Parker's prediction that prices for 2003's will make the 2000's look cheap should be taken with a grain of salt. Unless the critics praise 2003 as highly as 2000, I do not see 2003 prices reaching those heights.
