Hello all,

Perhaps this belongs in the "madder than hell" column, but here goes anyway:

Any chance we can start lobbying WS to remove that "stupid" pop-up everytime we open their website and/or even page over to the wine ratings? I already have a subsription, thank you. I also already have the weekly wine pick. Too bad there was not something that WS could do if the user that has every subscription possible, could instead sign in free of that pop-up from the same computer? I realize pop-up blocker is one way to rid the problem, but come on WS, people are getting fed up with pop-ups. Do your part please.

Submitted in my humble opinion.

Try the Google toolbar. It blocks ALL pop-ups. Free too. Just tell it not to send info to Google when installing.

I'm with you Dave, the WS page pop-up annoys me to no end, and subscribers shouldn't have to put up with it.

As for the Google toolbar, I've tried it and I have to say I'm a little suspicious of it. I still got pop-ups, only their timing was more random, although the ads were very directed. An example was an ad for a wine website I had never visited nor heard of. I think its possible the toolbar tracks your web surfing habits so that Google can then sell targeted advertising. Its the perfect business plan actually, "Advertise through us or nobody will ever see your ads".

with all that said, I agree this post belongs in "Madder than hell".

Get "Popupstopper' from www.panicware.com
That's all you need to eliminate those anoyances.

And now, back to our wine... Wink

It seems like all pop-up blockers just instal their own spyware.

Do the Luddites have a web site?

pop up blocking software is a beautiful thing.

I can take on any web site and deflect the ads like Wonder Woman's Bracelets.

I agree - especially when you are a member of all their adds that they have popups for (Weekly, & Ratings). Coming from an IT background, they should be able to detect who you are and not allow the popup if they already know you receive those services. Mad

We use two packages here on the companies computers:

Norton Anti-Spam Catches most all spam & ABSOLUTLY NO POP UPS HAVE INVADED.

NoAdWare - this runs at start up and locates spy ware, sneaky cookies etc., and deltes them.

Its now a pleasure to log into sites, especially WS and there magazine solicitations. Big Grin

It drives me nuts too. Althought it is better than some of the stuff out there getting through my firewall.
