I believe it is called "Overture"... and yes, only available at the winery. Substantially lower price.

The Overture is "non-vintage" as far as I know. They blend residual juice of a few vintages. Only available at winery. I had it down for 4 yrs and drank it last year - quite disappointing. So my advice if you buy some, drink it. It is a fun bottle to serve because of its rareness.

The one bottle I had was rubbish. For the price they sell it, I was expecting something better than Two-Buck Chuck. I was wrong.

Ick is right- I am still fuming that I wasted two hours on that Opus tour. The pretension was ridiculous.

You dont need to go on the tour to but Overture. Just go into where they do the tasting and buy the wine. I have done this numerous times. Some of the Overture is from one Vintage. I know the 96, 97 and 98 was. I heard the 99 is blended withy 2000.

quote: Opus One hasn't produced a decent wine since 1997. It should come as no surprise that the Leftover juice from '98, '99 and '00 Opus bottling results in less than mediocre wine. Parker and I often don't see eye to eye on California wine, but his write-up of Opus was spot on: "The 2000 Opus One marks the third straight vintage where the winery has produced a surprisingly feeble offering...These wines get my vote as Napa Valley's most overpriced offerings." |
