if so, they make that decision pretty easy for me

more MP and TC, more Rosenblum

Sloan: not suprising, considering a 6 pack of Bond is $1050

No, just the regular Cab, Merlot, and Shiraz, or the equivalent value of any other MP line...

$165/bottle for 2000 Sloan. You have got to be kidding me! This is getting ridiculous! There is no way I'm buying this stuff.

Ouch, that's steep!

The other question begging to be asked is then, what will it be flipped for on auction sites, like WC?

There will plenty who will pay a premium to have the next "cult".

Drab,

Are you sure? That sounds like sheer insanity for a 1st offering. In any case, i guess it's wait and see Roll Eyes .

Given the buzz, pedigree and scores of the upcoming vintages ('01 and '02), this wine will have no trouble reaching the $200 mark on the secondary market. Maybe not the first vintage. But the '01 and '02 for sure. The only way to get those wines is to get in on the '00. I wouldn't say that this is insane. If you buy a wine for $40 and sell it for $80, is that insane? Same profit as buying at $165 and selling for $205.

I haven't heard anyone verify these rumors. The buzz over on VC is that this was a rumor posted on WineCommune.

I'm a big advocate of the law of supply & demand. If Sloan can get $500 a bottle, then he ought to ask for it. I think it is kinda ridiculous that the rare few on Screaming Eagle's mailing list are making money hand over fist on their allocations.

I'll place my bet that it's a rumor. So I'll start another one just so you see how EASY rumors are.

So the mailer did went out this week, and from the look of things, they send it out by waves. The further away you are from Napa the earlier they mailed them.

This is confirmed by our very own Sir Willy, as I received a call from Walla Walla around noon today confirming the price is at $495 for a 3-Pack.

rickym13, as much as I hate to say this, I will be pulling the trigger on this one, more so for the investment value than anything else. I will be buying all of my allocations, provided I can come up with the cash flow... Razz Wink Roll Eyes

It's a big risk to buy the 2000 in anticipation for the 01 and 02. Do you remember Parker's early reviews of the Blankiets? That changed drastically!

Parker states that he usually only gives barrel ratings on wineries which have proven a good correlation with the final bottling. Of course, Sloan has no such track record. Who knows what the final score will be?

They produced 310 cases of the 2000, with around ~500 of the 2001 & 2002.

Brettay,

It's true that it's risky, however, I've heard enough about Sloan to think that he will succeed.

The man have one goal in mind, and one wine only, no more no less. He's determined to make the best wine possible and put all the focus on one Cabernet bottling.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Don't pay outrageous prices for the crappy 2000 Napa vintage! $165/ bottle for a crappy year? They don't get that in Bordeaux and shouldn't get it in Napa. Frown

A fine wine is like a fine woman, you love having one, you just hate paying for it.

JimmyV,
It's just my opinion....I believe in capitalism, but i am also shocked at the opening bell price!
I was one of the 1st people on the list literally, but i must ask the question, Have we all become so numb to the $ ?
One last thought, does Neal, Lewelling, etc. along with a host of other sub $50.00 cabs mean anything? In my opinion yes, that there are an evergrowing number of premium quality driven wineries these day's.
Food for thought, nothing less, nothing more!

I have also heard that before in where they will make one wine and focus just on that. It all sounds good but the bottom line here is the profit and loss on the balance sheet. I think when they see they can make more money with a new line of wine they will do it. Just look at Harlan and Colgin. In time the rest will follow.

I agree with red4life and would by another case of Neal before I would touch this one. I'd also rather sink that money into a 3 pak of 2001 Caymus SS which has proven itself time and again to be worthy of the high price. I think we are allowing ourselves to be manipulated by the hype rather than the wine.

Then again if I could flip it fo $200? Big Grin Wink Big Grin Wink

I think that's entirely possible even with the 2000 vintage.
