I've got an unlabelled bottle. The cork has a large V and the word PREVAIL printed on it. Any idea what it might be?

I did a search on wine.com for "Prevail" one bottle came up: Verite 2001 La Muse

I have no idea if this is what you're looking for. Probably not, the more I think about it, but I have no idea why this wine was the reult of the search and no others.

Just one more sip.

Sounds like something bottled by Prieurie de Sion at the Templars' cellars.

Dave -

This sounds like a bottle of preVail, which is a new upscale labe of Ferrari-Carano. The wine was just released last weekend which makes it somewhat interesting as your post is from fall of 2005. Where did you get the bottle from?

I was at Ferrari-Carano last weekend and had the good fortune of tasting both of the preVail releases which both are Cab/Syrah blends priced at $50 and $80. (I purchased one of the "Back Forty" bottles for the $80. The other bottling is called "West Face".

You can check them out on www.prevailwines.com for more informaion.

Yep, that's exactly what it was.

I know someone in Napa who is ITB; sometimes he gets samples of the wines that are newly bottled. He has more wine than he knows what to do with, so occasionally I get some from him. A lot of it is unlabelled, as was that PreVail.

It would be interesting to know which one of the two botlings it is. Also, do you have plans to taste the wine anytime soon or are you going to lay it down?

Since I had no idea what it was or how old it was (there was no label or capsule, or date on the cork) I drank it. I didn't make any notes.

Judging by the bottle it was in I'd guessed that it probably would have had a fairly high pricetag. I remember that it seemed like decent enough juice, but it didn't wow me enough to think about trying to chase it down. Reading the description, I think the fact that it had about 10% Syrah in there may have been what threw me; I was expecting a straight Cab or Meritage.

I think Phillipe Melka is the winemaker for PreVail wines.

I am sure that whole Baphomet thing was just a big misunderstanding.

I've tried the prevail wines too. they are superb but very limited. I think they will only be available to their mailing list? they are vineyard designates from alexander valley mountains. Phillipe melka consulted.
