So a large grayish looking envelop showed up in my mailbox today.

Here is the offering...

Bond
2001 - 6-bottle case (2 each Melbury, St. Eden & Vecina) @ $1,050 - Limit one case per customer

Matriarch
2000 - 6-bottle case @ $330
2000 - 3-bottle case @ $165

The vineyard designates went up $25 per bottle vs. the initial offering, while the Matriarch increased by $5 per bottle.

Order must be received by March 19 to receive priority consideration.

2000 Matriarch will be shipped April 2004.

2001 Bond will be shipped Spring 2005.

The single vineyard wines got smokin' reviews from Parker. But $175 per bottle (plus shipping) is just too steep.

And the '00 Matriarch netted only 89 points. At $55 per, I'll be passing.

Thanks for the update pyang. That is painful, I think I'll likely end up in the same boat with JimmyV.

Gonna take it all. Even the Matriarch you can probably sell after a few years. The '01 single vineyard wines should be great.

Pyang,
Thanks for the reply ... I'm sure I'll find another wine somewhere to cure my heartbreak on this one. Enjoy it when you drink it! By the way, I just read your posting about the new job ... congratulations!! I've visited winecommune but I haven't spent much time at winebid yet - do you want to make a shameless plug for why it's better?

Best of luck.

I wonder if passing on the Bond would have any kind of effect on status for allocation with Harlan.

wine...owe,

I am going to start a thread in Buying and Selling to address all questions regarding winebid, so I don't spam the board with information others may not be interested in. Smile

Hey Wine Owe welcome to the Forum.

Email me at craig@mhccom.com I should be getting the Bond mailer soon. I too am from the Twin Cities and if I buy some 01' Bond I will need a local TC partner to split the allocation.

Also...

Did you see the twin Cities Offline posting for tomorrow night at Mall of America Napa Valley Grill? You are welcome to attend and bring a guest but we should add you to the res. Post to the Offline if you want to join 8 other local TC winos tomorrow night Sunday 2-15-04 6PM.

It seems as if the market is becoming over flooded with mailing lists. It was not to long ago where if you got a chance to buy wines of the quality you jumped at it. Now with so many wineries mailing list only it appears we are all being selective on which mailing lists we will be loyal to. I can see from peoples posts that if this wine Bond continues to go upward in price each year we might even see this wine hit retail stores. I see a lot of people are passing on their mailing list offer. Its pretty hard to be charging 175 a bottle now and not having people think twice considering what wines are out there for much less.

I am only about 50% on buying some Bond when I get the mailer. The wine sounds great BUT for $175 I can buy a lot of other cools stuff too.

IE...
I plan on buying at least six bottles of the 01' Etude at $80 btl when its released. I plan on buying a six pack of the 02' Beaux Freres Vineyard at $58 ea next month. I have 3 bottles of the outstanding 99' Armand Rousseau Chambertin @ $195 on hold to buy next month. All of those options and many more good options make the $175 Bond a less likely choice.

I don't know...

I wish we could say it's a buyers market, but I still don't think that's true for the cults. And, yes, Bond classifies as a cult already in my book, at least from the financial standpoint. It makes limited high quality wines that are very difficult to obtain.

I really wish that we could all boycott the wines with questionnable pricing practices, but I don't think it would make a damn bit of difference. There are a lot of really rich people out there who can spend money on this project, even though it doesn't have a proven track record.

So I'm planning on buying my allocation, because if not, someone else surely will, and they willl enjoy it (or sell it for 50-100% profit).

As far as I can see the only Bond wines that can be sold for a profit are the Matriarchs and that is because they came out at 50 a bottle. The 99 Bonds which are 1/3 of the production of the 2001's can be bought for the same price as the mailing list and I have seen some go for even cheaper.
