Nice release, but is it me or is this weak compared to last year's 'Our Finest' release?
There are definitely some great wines on the higher end... The Beaucastel, Montelena, Caymus SS, and Command jump out at me... But the release seems very weak to me in the $40-$60 bracket?
Based on what's currently in LCBO inventory, I'm assuming the following vintages will be released...
CHÂTEAU DE BEAUCASTEL CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2007 CAYMUS SPECIAL SELECTION CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2006 CHATEAU MONTELENA THE MONTELENA ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2005 ELDERTON COMMAND SINGLE VINEYARD 2005 ANAPERENNA BY BEN GLAETZER 2007
Since I have no money budgeted for the $4,700 6L Masseto, no must buys here for me.
This release is weaker than expected for me too. Obviously some very good wines, but not as broad a lineup as I was hoping for. Maybe there'll be more in the Dec. 5th release.

I'm afraid you might be disappointed. Aside from the 06 Don Melchor, there are not many wines to get excited about in the Dec 5 release.
Looks like the LCBO is confirming that the economy still sucks. The release pales in comparison to some of the "best of the best" from the past couple of years.

A couple of quick comments or observations - didn't the pdf list normally include the YEAR of the wine ( or am I blind ) - for example is Perrin Rasteau on 07 or re-release of 06 ( boy - Parker loves these 07 CdR's and fair price. - interesting article on Closson Chase & Le Clos Jordanne by Jancis Robinson here > http://www.jancisrobinson.com/...cles/a200908181.html - it seemed during the summer we got a lot more advance notice of these lists ( maybe little notice is better on my wallet :-)

There are a few wines of interest to be found on the December 5, 2009 Vintages Release. While I have not had time to complete the list of all products here is what has been done thus far: www.freewebs.com/2009december5
The main "pick" for me is the 2007 Les Champauvins CdR-V for $19.95. If you review the notes by clicking on the link, it is interesting to note how many reviewers explicitly state that this wine surpasses many CNdP. CHEERS

The wine sheet indicates that this makes the third time this vintage of this wine will be making an appearance.
The rated alcohol is 15%.
I've not had a chance to taste this wine yet but am looking forward to trying it out. You may be right, but I hope you are wrong as I've requested between 1,000 and 2,000 bottles of this wine for the December Release.

Keeping with the November 21 thread, here is the link to my main pick for this Release: www.freewebs.com/2009november21 It is a $14.95 Malbec from Argentina. This was tasted already and all I can say is I believe it will prove to be a crowd-pleaser and good value. (Fingers crossed others see it the same way since I've already been confirmed just a little less than 1,500 bottles.)

I remember not long ago when people were lining up to buy this at $45. It's going to be interesting to see how many are going to bite at $70 in today's economy.
Thanks for the Dec 5 list nicos. I still have a bottle of the Les Champauvin from the last release. This was my party wine. It was OK; many considered the 91 Parker score optimistic.
I was looking out for the Penfolds 389; had previous vintages but heard the 2006 was not up to par of the previous couple of vintages. I was hoping for a price break on this (it's $25 at PJ's in NYC), but too steep at $38.

Thanks for the heads up on this Fut. I probably would have jumped all over this otherwise, because like you, really liked the 06.

IMO... Bigtime question of pallette... Aussie fans and casual wine drinkers will like it. Serious fans of old world wines (like Fut) will hate it.
Personally I'm ambivalent as long as it is served on the cool side... but my wife loves it, so I will be buying some more.

I've shared enough wine with Fut to know I trust his palate. Unfortunately the reverse does not seem to be the case based on the recent Castelgiocondo release.
BTW, that price for the 06 Caymus SS is pretty fair. I recently picked one up at the Redwood K&L store for US$99.99. But then they added the 9% CA sales tax, which makes CDN$129 very reasonable.

Ouch! Let's just say I'm a glutton for punishment.
Not sure if it is actually the 2006 Caymus SS being release or a re-release of 05. CPSC code on vintages assessment is 2005, and looking at the distributor's site for Caymus shows a different CPSC code with Nov 21st release. Very confusing....
Could go either way. Products brought in for consignment sales always have a different product code than what will be sold through Vintages/Classics. Even if the products are the same vintage.

That I understand, but then the " fishy " part is that ALL of the 05 inventory is now missing online....anybody recall what was the price on the 05's??
