Is this true?

LCBO spokesman Chris Layton said if changes happen, "it would be a matter for the federal government to discuss with provinces."

He added Ontarians have access to wines from other provinces through the LCBO, by placing orders for them.

Layton said those orders take about two to three weeks. They are delivered to an LCBO outlet of choice at no extra charge.

I am skeptical.

I have tried ordering through the LCBO before and it doesn't work.

I got the name and phone number of someone responsible for ordering, but she never answered her phone nor did she ever return her messages. A really bad show!

I think Chris Layton is blowing corporate smoke through his shisha!

I realize the writer did not intend to be funny, but I found this to be absurdly funny.

"In June, the LCBO also confirmed it's legal for people to bring wines, spirits and beer into Ontario from other Canadian Provinces or Territories for personal consumption."

I can just see it now, border stations between provinces looking for smugglers bringing 6 bottles of illegal Baby Duck in from Quebec.

A Canadian now living with choice.

I have had it work. It takes longer than reasonable, inevitably passes through some holiday season thereby taking longer than initially quoted and your case arrives with 10 bottles as 2 were required for 'quality assurance' purposes. Not impossible, but not something I will repeat. The cynic in me would suggest it almost seems intentional.

The part I was most skeptical about was "the no extra charge". Was that true for you? And who paid for the 2 QC bottles?

i cant recall if there was an extra charge or not it was a number of years ago. The bottles i had to eat the cost of. I know of another person who lost 2 bottles under the same circumstances while importing scotch.

To my knowledge, the government does not withhold samples of any other food product that is imported into Canada, except for alcoholic beverages. I don't think I have had to give up 2 radishes to make sure they don't contain sulphites.

Just another inanity that our government brings to life.

I have ordered wine from BC without having to go through the LCBO. I ordered directly from the winery and from my experience, it generally costs roughly $25 freight per case (the cost per case decreases somewhat the more cases you order at a given time).

I have made several attempts at reading through the "Importation of Intoxicating Liquors Act", "Excise Act" and "Liquor Licence Act" but cannot find any reference to inter-provincial trade on intoxicating liquors (or for imports from foreign states for that matter) as it would relate to personal consumption and the consequences (duties or criminal). Granted, I have not had a thorough read so until then I defer to one who has some experience in law and the subject to clarify what constitutes as legal, pertaining to the importation of intoxicating liquor.

And some will do it, but they are taking a risk because it is against the law. I have asked some wineries in BC and they will not.
