The Roquetaillade La Grange was all gone yesterday from the dozen or so stores here that had it, probably by about 10am. So I see that there is some in Windsor, call the store to confirm (two cases I'm told) and then call my oldest dearest pal there, who selflessly jumps in the car to get some for both of us. After going to the wrong store first (my fault), he then hits the store I called - and not only is it gone, there were in fact four cases at noon.

The stuff is hot....

And FYI, the Mary Kathless is also all gone here and in Windsor. Frown

snow sucks, cold is worse.......

Damn, I feel like I missed out now! The Windsor and Tecumseh stores usually are good for picking up a few straggler bottles of stuff that's long since sold out elsewhere. Coincidently, I was at the store you mentioned last week and the manager offered to get me anything from the 2/7 release from the back. But I figured I'd have plenty of time to get anything interesting once it was out, so I opted for their last bottles of '00 La Vieille Cure.

wineguy,

I completely forgot that the '98 Col d'Orcia BdM was in this release. I'd welcome your thoughts (or anyone else's thoughts, for that matter -- futronic, perhaps?).

I enjoy Col d'Orcia's wines. They tend to be a little more forward than other Brunello. It received a good WS rating (92), and the price is right, so I think it's a buy. I think it would be something to start drinking around 2005-2006.

I bought a few of the '97s last year, principally on the strength of the stellar vintage and relatively reasonable price, but I have yet to try one.

I ended up with the last 10 Hecula from the new store in North Whitby (yay, 3km from my house!)and the last bottle of Yellow Tail Shiraz (just to try it to see what the fuss is about).

Very inexpensive release for a change.

There's a list of the March products on the Vinatge Assessments website.

March LCBO Release

I also picked up a bottle of the Hecula today but what I noticed was the store was swimming in this Yellow Tail Shiraz (2003).

I got a peek at the March release last week. Some okay stuff in there. I'm calling it now - get the 2001 Roberto Voerzio Vignaserra that will be an In-Store Discovery. I grabbed a couple bottles of the '99 when it was released in Classics a couple years ago, and it's seriously good juice. A blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera that can be drunk on release or aged for many years. I've still got one '99 left.

I'm skipping this Classics Catalogue - I'm not paying some of those outrageous prices.

Welcome, Bob!

I looked at the march release. Some decent stuff, but nothing spectacular for my tastes.

For the classics, I ordered:
99 St-Hallett old block(to continue a vertical)
2000 Ebenezer shiraz (again, a vertical)
2000 Smith and Woodhouse vintage port
99 Wynn's John Riddoch (apparently no 2000 or 2001 will be made)
2001 Killikanoon Oracle shiraz
77, 91, 93, 95 Masi Amarones

I'll be happy if I get the St-Hallett olf block, the rest, I won't be too dissappointed (mind you the Masi are really appealing)

Thanks for welcome!

Not sure I'll have much to contribute. My idea of a wine score tend to be directly related to how how quickly the bottle emptied. However, I have enjoyed reading your posts over the past few months and figured I should at least try to contribute!

bman,

Because DoktaP lives outside of Toronto/Ottawa, he can have his local LCBO order release wines at his request. He'll be able to pick it up the date of the release, assuming the store's allocation is filled.

It seems like the LCBO is shaking the cobwebs out for the March release. Aside from the wines mentioned above, others that caught my eye are:

2003 Goldwater Sauv Blanc
2002 Isabel Sauv Blanc - I'm curious how this compares to last year's vintage which was such a hot wine last year

2001 Ironstone Pressings
2000 Mont Redon CdP

and the 3 Gaja releases...
2000 Sito Moresco
2001 Promis

and...

2000 Barbaresco at a mere $226Cdn

Leaves lots to think about, although the Gaja Barbaresco doesn't take long to think about! Eek Eek Eek

I'm not surprised at the Gaja spotlight. It coincides with Angelo Gaja's visit and dinner on March 3rd.

And yes, at that price, I might have to buy one bottle of Gaja Barbaresco. I can't believe I'm actually considering spending over $200 on a bottle of wine, but I think this one's worth the stretch.

Futronic, you're skipping the Classics Catalogue because of "outrageous prices" but you are considering putting $225.00 down for a bottle of Gaja????? Eek Eek

I know I will be picking up some 2001 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec @ $19.95. The 2000 was great.

Welcome Bob!

But it's Gaja ... the Barbaresco is available on futures in the US for around $190USD at Zachy's, and the rest of Gaja's wines tip in at $400.

We'll see what the cash flow says come release day.
