Has anyone tried this vintage yet? It's on sale for $29.95 here in Mpls. Just drank my last 1997 that was great. I didn't find much info online when I looked it up. Any tasting notes or drinking windows? Popcorn

if you're talking about the '04 Tapestry Reserve, which I think you are based on the price you quoted, check this out:

I had a bottle recently and was impressed with it considering I was let down by the last vintage that I tried (1999). I paid about $35 at Costco here in California so $29.95 is a good price and worth trying IMO.

It's a good price. I tasted it some time go and thought it was just fine then and in line with what I expected. Stylistically, it is so far away from what is generating buzz today in Napa that it gets overlooked. It's not necessarily a knock-your-socks-off wine, but it's always pleasant, well-made, balanced, and altogether enjoyable. Frankly, I wish more wines were made like that.

I thought BV had issues with TCA in its cellars and a number of their wines (including this vintage) were affected. Based on the cellartracker notes, I guess BV has resolved their issues.

MPLS - you can drink it now. It's usually still good at 10 years, beyond that I really don't know.

As far as the TCA issue - that's something to ask Laube about. He downrated the BV wines because of the TCA issue but they were aware of it and working on it and I would imagine that by now they're OK. In any event, the wines I've had were just fine, including the 2001 Tapestry and GDL that were given such low scores. But I've only had them maybe two or three times per vintage so statistically that's maybe not a great sample.

Funny thing though, I was at the tasting room a couple years ago and was tasting the reserves, which at the time cost an extra $25 or so. Anyhow, one of the older GdLs was totally corked. I mentioned it to the guy pouring and he denied it and said that nobody else was complaining. So maybe there's some kind of institutional inability to detect corked wine. Too bad because they can produce classic wines.

I bet I went right after you, because the guy that was pouring for me, said "Yer like the second person that said that" and said .. "They're probably all like that so I'm not opening another bottle" ... was it the 1990 GDL?
