Is this a good buy? I know the price is very low, but is it a good '05 CdP for the price? Any better options of '05 CdP in the same price range?

That's a great price and I would say yes to the 2nd question. I would say, in general, no to the third question. You may be able to find some Vieux Donjon around $50. Another option is Domaine Ferrand. I think you will have pay over $60 or more to get much better quality in '05. Don't think that was the case on release, but now that ratings have been out, the prices have increased due to demand and the quality of the vintage.

As long as you don't mind buying and forgetting about it for at least a few years, I'd say go for it. I'm speaking in generalities about the vintage as most of top 05s have or are in the process of headed for a deep sleep.

$50 seems alot more than what I was offered for pre arrival from premier cru for this wine.

Fair enough, but will it come back down to those levels?

What it once cost doesn't really affect my buying decision. I'm more interested in knowing of any better choices from the same region & vintage that are currently available in the same price range.

Thanks!

I agree with your thoughts on release pricing. Again, I don't think you are going to do much better at that price point for the quality. I thought about it a little more and you may find some base cuvees that performed well in '05 like Janasse, Clos du Mont Olivet, and Les Cailloux. On the whole, I think it is a solid buy.
