I see that you are fond of Shiraz.

Did you get any of the Porcupine Ridge?

Also, you may wish to watch out for the Gemtree Uncut Shiraz at $27.95 from the October 11th Release. The winemaker at Gemtree is Mike Brown (the guy was the winemaker of Dead Arm Shiraz for d'Arenberg until he married into the family that owns Gemtree). Aside from the skill of the winemaker, the 2006 Uncut is a little 'bigger' than usual because Gemtree did not produce their flagship Shiraz (known as Obsidian) and poured all of the Obsidian grapes into the Uncut Shiraz. The Uncut received 92pts from Wine Spectator and 95pts from james Halliday

CHEERS

I have had the Porcupine Ridge in the past and it is a good QPR however it is not something I would pick up any more. I have far too much Shiraz and am being extremely selective with further purchases. I may pick up a Gemtree to give it a try.

I did pick up a couple of the Schubert Pinot you recommended. Thanks again.

The Porcupine Ridge used to be a great QPR when it sold for $12.95.

I understand that the grapes for Schubert Marion's Vineyard is partly sourced from DRC Pommard clones and thank you nicos for bringing this to light, but can anyone who has popped a bottle chime in with tasting notes and opine whether it's worth the $38 asking price?

Can't be much 'Terroir' @ $38/pop. Smile

I haven't even tried it but I'm willing to bet it is better than 80% of $50 Burgundies. Smile

Never know unless you try. Consider this for a moment. Twenty years ago, any mention of 'Malbec' and 'Terroir' would have resulted in FRANCE. Today it results in ARGENTINA. Wouldn't it be ironic if this history repeated itself and DRC outdoes itself in NEW ZEALAND?

BTW - the 2006 Gemtree Uncut Shiraz appears on the Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines if 2008 List.

In addition, another wine that was featured in the September 27th Vintages Release also appears on the Top 100 Wines of 2008 List -- note the 2005 Condado de Haza Crianza Ribera del Duero at $27.95 appears at #34 place. Wine Spectator rated it 93 points but the Wine Advocate only gave it a 90 point score.
