Sorry - I have tried 10 searches - and can't find the original Sept 27 Release ...doh ...

Question - 06 Sanford Pinot Noir - not many reviews on cellar tracker -- but valuation shows at $29 while LCBO price of $20.95 ... is this another clear out special like Mardigal (which I didn't get enough ) - anyone have opinion on Sanford.

Regards
Greg
ps- Bonterra 573709 scored 71 on WS ... looking forward to see that shelf talker :-)

I don't know what you're reading but I see the SANFORD PINOT NOIR 2006 LCBO price at $34.95. The Santa Barbara Winery Syrah 2005 is $20.95. Maybe you confused the 2? In any case, definitely not another Madrigal-like deal.

There is a huge dump of Veneto wines being released under the ISD program this Saturday. Bayview/Sheppard store will be getting all of them.

Limited quantity stuff gets arbitrarily dumped in ISD designated LCBO locations and may be obtained on a first come first serve basis. In mississauga, I would suspect that means the Sherwood Forrest location and heartland Town Center (though I could be wrong).

BTW ISD=In Store Discovery

Are they released on same day as the new releases? (ie. 27th)

Sherwood is my regular store. Which is nice.

Yes. However, most of the wines actually appear on the shelf before the official release-day nowadays.

Interesting, I will have to keep my eye out before the release.

geez, you weren't kidding about the "huge dump". I don't recall such a large and varied ISD offering before? Alot of Amarones to choose from, any suggestions?

I might look at the Reynella Cab.

So, anybody buying anything from this release?

DOMAINE DE COURTEILLAC 2005 looks interesting at $26.95.

I half wondering about the Belle Glos Clark & Telephone Pinot. If I hear anything positive, then I might buy it.

Otherwise, I'll just pick up a bottle or two of Tenzen Junmai Genshu Jizake Saké.

Hi

here is Brant's list he posts on Cellar Tracker

http://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?O=MaxPrice%20DESC...0&iUserOverride=1273

I am pretty new at this - it is amazing how many wines he has to ADD to cellar tracker. Wines that NO ONE has in their cellars. And LCBO are not known to be first to market.

First -- it is NICE to see that LCBO can come close to USA prices ( based upon average cellar tracker values -- but -- with a rating of 85.7 from CT and 86 from WS it does seem over priced on a QPR.

There were a couple of wines I could have but on my short list ( to be ok'ed by my favourite guys at my Vintages store (Roundhouse-Windsor )) but when the LCBO is way off the average USA price --I drop and wait til I travel in USA to try them

Tasted this in Montreal at the Salon de Vin and it was very good. A buy, IMO.

Since then, I've picked up a couple of bottles.

I bought a previous vintage here and liked it, but my recollection is that it was at least $5, maybe $10 cheaper. I' not sure I'd pay nearly $50 for it.

I agree, although I kind of laugh watching the feeding frenzy last year for the Clos Jordanne Grand Clos ($60), myself included Eek

My first choice (Thorn-Clarke Quartage) sold out so I had to buy some of the Porcupine Ridge Syrah ($14.95) from South Africa. It got the usual big press reviews: Best Buy from Beppi of The Globe and Mail and Best Buy from Michael Vaughan.
The link to the detailed wine sheet is available from the following http://www.freewebs.com/winething9/sept272008list.htm

This release is dedicated to the Burgundy theme but I still think one of the best deals to be had for lovers of pinot noir was the Schubert Marion's Vineyard at $37.95 out of New Zealand and featured in the August 30th release. It seems to have missed the radar but the vines that produced Schubert pinot noir were purchased from Domaine Romanee-Conti and that is one heck of a place to start.

Nicos...Thanks for the great info on the Schubert. I'll definitely pick up a few and give it a try. I love New Zealand pinot and I believe 2006 was a great vintage.

Are these your picks on freewebs.com? How are they being picked before they are released or are they picks from a wine guide? Just Curious.

Thanks!

I see that you are fond of Shiraz.

Did you get any of the Porcupine Ridge?
http://www.freewebs.com/winething9/2007%20Porcupine%20Ridge%20Syrah.doc

Also, you may wish to watch out for the Gemtree Uncut Shiraz at $27.95 from the October 11th Release. The winemaker at Gemtree is Mike Brown (the guy was the winemaker of Dead Arm Shiraz for d'Arenberg until he married into the family that owns Gemtree). Aside from the skill of the winemaker, the 2006 Uncut is a little 'bigger' than usual because Gemtree did not produce their flagship Shiraz (known as Obsidian) and poure
