To my fellow ontarians. Something to reflect on.
I read an article int his morning's newspaper. There might be a buyer for the LCBO....the Brewer's Retail/Beer Stores.

They claim they would build superstore for beer and wine and liquor under on roof, like a Loblaws for booze.
Could be interesting. Province wouldn't loose tax revenues, would reduce operating costs (lost jobs though), and prices could be reduced or more reasonable (yeah right!).

For those who are interested, however, here's the article that carriedca mentioned: LINK.

Dream on. Besides you would be exchanging one monopoly for another.

Slan. Judging by some of your posts on these boards it sounds like you're really suffering Wink

I heard that Brewers has approached the LCBO about strategic "combo/superstores" in key locations. I haven't heard a sale discussed to this point.

If you're really interested (bored?) the submission document that was presented to the provinical government can be found
here

While it seems to focus on how over-taxed beer is, it is kind of interesting - they go so far as to include a colour picture of what this super store could look like.

Given The Beer Store sales have largely been flat over the last 5 years it is not hard to understand why they fear more tax hikes. In contrast sales revenues and volumes though the LCBO have grown steadily reflecting changing tastes.

So let's not increase taxes, keep the masses drinking and get the LCBO to pick up a share of our overhead - ya gotta love it!
