I happened to stumble upon 6 (375 ml) bottles of 1990 Dr. Burklin-Wolf Wichenheimer Rechbachel Riesling Auslese "R" today at a local LCBO. This vintage is no where to be found on the vintage search engine. I have no idea about provenance, but I suspect they found it lying around in their storage room while doing a massive inventory check. I looked it up on the net, and it appears to be highly rated and from an excellent vintage in Germany. I've seen scores from 91-94.
The kicker is that I only paid $14.95 each for the 375ml bottles. Any thoughts? Good deal? Tasting notes?
Maybe something to try at our next Toronto offline? Cool

1990 was a good year in the Pfalz. Dr. Bürklin-Wolf is one of the better producers. So I suspect you have some good wine on your hands. I don't know how much German wine generally gets marked up by the LCBO but given your geography it probably is a good price.

I think you got a good price. I would expect that wine to go for EUR30+ ($38) in Germany for 375ML.

Thanks for the information. I'll post tasting notes when I try them. You can always count on somebody on these boards for assistance.

Oops...I stand corrected. A quick search on wine-searcher.com shows Burklin-Wolfs 1990 ausleses selling for around EUR 13 ($16) for 375ML. I have a habit of overpaying; this just confirms it. But you still got a decent deal.

I think I found the wine on the Vintages site (see below)......

Should be a good wine as it is from a great vintage and should be drinkable now or with more age.

It looks like you are the proud owner of the last 4 bottles in Ontario as there is no stock anywhere.

I found a bunch of 1997 Selbach-Oster Auslesen in a local store last year and it was also under $15 for 375 bottles. It just appeared at a reduced price out of nowhere. I think they find this type of obscure stuff when doing a spring cleaning of the LCBO warehouses!
