How exactly do they stand to benefit? They lose 49 states. I think you are assigning blame on the wrong people! As someone stated, both Sam's and Binny's publicly stated their opposition to this bill. They will lose WAY more than they gain.

CFW, I recall Tom Flickinger going on record against the bill, but I sure don't recall anything from Sam's or Binny's (and I won't buy from either anymore).
If you have some info on their taking a stand, I hope you will share it.

Most states are already subject to similar laws. It seems the wine buyers in Georgia (other thread) are happy that similar laws were approved. Start visiting your local Costco more often - prices and selection (at least in Chicago) are great. A friend in the wine business says this is great for Costco and places like the Wine Discount Center but not so great for volume seller's like Sam's (less inventory, higher cost/bottle sold, lower sale price/bottle since internet buyers are more discerning). Sounded reasonable to me.
Bad comparison. Wine buyers in Georgia are happy because we finally had some rights granted, not removed. There is nothing about this law that will save you money unless you are ITB.

I would like to think that Sam's and Binny's have done the analysis to know if this will hurt or help them, but I'm not sure that's necessarily true. In any case, this sucks, and we have no one to blame but ourselves. I assure you that my state rep and state senator each heard from me SEVERAL times during this battle, and that they either abstained or voted "no". There would be no vote of mine going to any representative who voted for this crap. I'm glad my cellar is currently stocked. I'm pretty much in a steady state now, which puts little pressure on me to buy as much as I have in the last 5 years or so. I'll wait and see what happens to prices and I will act accordingly. If I miss out on this vintage of the century in (((fill in the blank))), I'll catch the next one.
******* This IS next year!

I addressed their prices in an earlier email, and I think both these retailers do a good job. This topic was in the news last year and I no longer remember the articles that discussed $$$ and who stood to lose what. I only remember the article discussing the large amount of e-commerce that both retailers stood to lose.
