Curious to know what others think. Croft was the dark horse of the tasting at Zachys this past weekend. IMO

Mareff, what others did you taste and like?

I'm getting too long in the tooth to buy any for the cellar, but the other day I saw half bottles of Fonseca, Dow's and Taylor, and was tempted to grab a couple for a hedonistic treat. Not enough room in the suitcase though.

Same boat as steve8. I'll add port to the cellar, but nothing past the 90s for me.

The only 2007 Port I've seen here is the Fanseca. The splits are $55. I msy pull the trigger on one or two different Ports in the 375ml format if the price is right. Wink

It is really hard for me to find wine with age on it, but Port seems to be the exception. I would rather buy older bottles than cellar Port from release.

I had a son born in 2007 so I will probably buy a few here and there for him (and his children!). I'd be interested in what you tried and what you liked (along with TN if you took them). I will more than likely not get a chance to taste prior to buying. Port is not all that popular in Nashvegs...

I enjoyed the Croft, Fonseca and the Dow's. All of them had a high alcohol content and were hot on my palate. Ample amounts of fruit though. I agree with KSC02, that there are ample aged ports out there worthy of purchase. Regardless of that, the prices do not seem too high en premier

Going to grab a Fonseca, Dow and Graham.

I ordered a few 375's and a couple 750's of the Warre's and Graham's. They aren't cheap here in Ontario but it was the year I got married so I didn't mind so much.

Geez, Steve and K, if you're too old to buy port younger than the 90s, I must have one foot in the grave! I pretty much stopped buying with the 200 vintage.

BTW, I got some port at the Vintages Auction, which might get popped at the next offline, if it's after the New Year which is when I will likely have to wait to collect it.

The 200 vintage??? Do you get notes of drawn blood in your wines? Wink

I stopped buying with the 2003 vintage, which is about our age difference, right?

If you're 50, yes. And if you're not quite there yet, I think we need a suitably celebratory offline to mark it when it comes.

Speaking of port, for anyone in or near Ontario, some 2000 Sandeman Vau was released here yesterday at the extremely uncharacteristically fair price of $30. I intend to pop one soon to see if it's anywhere near as good as the 97, which was the best QPR port I've ever bought in Canada.

When you get a chance to try it , I like to hear what you thought of the Sandeman Vau.

Thanks

I bought the Taylors through Bibbendum in LOndon - just need to forget about it for 20 years or so now!

I've NEVER liked a young Port until I tried the 2007 Quinta do Noval at the Wine & Spirits Top 100 Tasting couple weeks ago. An absolute stunning wine that's impeccably balanced and shows zero sign of heat. Globs of luscious, juicy black fruits that lingers on your palate forever.

Let's see.

The oldest Ports in my cellar are '63s. The Taylor's is just about entering the drinking window.
The '70 Dow we shared the other night showed better than it did ten years ago, and I always considered it a relatively fragile specimen.
I'll be passing the century mark about the time the 2007s are in prime condition.

In the hopes of living forever, I did buy some.
