KTF,

There are two major clusters of wineries in the Seattle area. One is right in an industrial part of south Seattle called South Park. Cadence, O-S, Nota Bene, and Fall Line wineries are nearly next door to each other. They have occasional events on Saturdays. You might get lucky.

The larger group is about twenty minutes out of town near Woodinville.

I was just there and ate at an Argentinean restraunt (the Argentinean grill?) that was incredible. One of their entres is a platter of mixed meats that comes out on a brazier - incredible! They also had the largest selection of Malbecs I have seen in a restraunt.

thirsty man,
Were you at the Buenos Aires Grill by any chance? I've had the mixed grill myself, and it IS fantastic. Did you get the garlic fries with that? Best in town!
They also have Tango dancing on Fri & Sat nights.

I've often recommended Union as a fantastic, innovative and always exciting restaurant downtown Seattle. Others include Cascadia, Rovers (French), Lampreia, Cafe Juanita, Harvest Vine, Lark, Crush...

I'd hit up Woodinville for the wineries. Matthews Cellars, Chateau Ste. Michelle (yeah, it's tourist-y, but nice), Ross Andrew, Stevens...

Cheers!

I'd add Januik / Novelty Hill onto that list as well. They recently built a new facility - cool architecture, good wine.

You might consider the Herb Farm in Woodinville for dinner, if you have a Ft Knox Budget & 5 hours to spare; it is very special and its right down the street from Chateau St. Michelle(nice) and Columbia Crest (a volume wine maker!

Had a great eclectic meal at Steelheaddiner, on the waterfront last fall. Nice local wine list too. Met the owners, chef and our waitress who joined our band the next day for winetasting frivolty in Woodinville Area. Novelty Hill/Januik, Brian Carter Cellars to name a couple for a great time.. Did not hit the biggies, but Cht. St. Michelle and Columbia are both very close by..

Very nice people up there, not quite the "Norcal Experience." Enjoy, we did. Wink

Make sure to visit Pike Place market for the ceremonial throwing of the fish. The walk around the market is nice. Seattle is a really nice city.

Just a quick note, the second winery up from Herbfarm is Columbia Winery, not Columbia Crest (which is in Patterson, WA on the other side of the mountains). Either way, they do make a TON of wine and, IMHO, it's not very good stuff. I also heard rumors that they're moving locations.

Cheers!

I agree in regard to Columbia Winery. It was the worst visit for us in the Woodinville area. Nice picnic grounds, mediocre wine.

We enjoyed our visit to Columbia Crest in Patterson. It sure is out of the way, but the area is beautiful and the wines pretty good- certainly far better than anything we found in the Yakima Valley.

Just one more sip.
