Before I have to finalize my order, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts that they care to share re. the following. Below is what is before me, can cancel any without penalty (if anyone wants them I will let you know when I cancel), and I have tasted those with a '(T)'.
Keeping all of: Grand-Puy-Lacoste Rauzan-Segla (T) La Tour Blanche (T) Pontet Canet (T) Smith Haut Lafite (T) Malescot St-Exupéry Beaumont (T) On the fence regarding: Haut-Bergey Blanc (T) Pavillon Rouge Haut-Bailly (T) Planning to cancel: Lynch Bages (T) Nenin Leoville Poyferre (T) Carbonnieux Blanc (T) d'Issan La tour Martillac (T) I know this really comes down to a matter of taste so the question is rather futile...but does anyone see any overly stupid decisions (an no I will not cancel my PC or Malescot)? I wouldn't cancel the Poyferre. I have always found them to be solid wines.

Why would you cancel any Pomerol? 2005 was one of the best vintages in history in this locale.

The need to eliminate some is budgetary...already kept more than I planned and ordered more after my initial orders.
Re. Poyferre, liked it more than langoa barton, but less than leoville barton...was not wowed by the 03 or 96 poyferre, and I think maybe St. Julian is not a good fit for my taste profiles (obviously I need more tasting practice!). Re. Nenin/Pomerol, I already have le bon pasteur, certan de may, hosanna, and l'evangile, and the tasting notes and ratings for Nenin do not seem to justify the price tag ($98 up here)...had to draw the line somewhere, as hard as it is. Got my '3'rd Wave' notice in the mail yesterday. The only thing I got in this time is Ch. Guiraud.

Well if I end up not wanting any of:
Haut-Bergey Blanc Pavillon Rouge Haut-Bailly Lynch Bages Nenin Leoville Poyferre Carbonnieux Blanc (UGC price) d'Issan La tour Martillac (UGC price) If anyone wants them at the original futures price (or the UGC price, as indicated) let me know. Not sure if any have gone up in price. Will probably keep Pavillon Rouge and Haut Bailly. "No TV and no beer make Homer...something, something" |

Yeah..just got my letter yesterday too. Forgot how much I owed them. Not fun but I guess on a couple of the "biggies", I did pretty well, price wise.

Emil, you can still find the futures price list along with all the original tasting notes on the Vintages site at: http://www.vintages.com/futures/bordeaux-futures-2005/b...tures-2005_list.html Some of these wines are still cheaper at US current market rates compared to LCBO futures prices. For example, the Poyferré is $128 LCBO futures price but it is available at PJ Wines today in Manhattan for under $100 US. |

Good old PJ's...got my 05 Pavie Mac for $72.50 from them! If you want to compare to expected LCBO prices, best indicator may be the guide from the UGC tasting last february...Pavie Mac went from $118 on futures to $350, PC went from $129 to $199, LB went from $139 to $330 I believe...and I think that Canon La Gaf went from about $138 to $235 or so on a recent reoffer (I managed to get 3 on futures and 2 more at the futures price that someone returned to the Summerhill store I think). Many that were not initially sold out were being sold at the UCG event for the futures price...which is something else that makes me a bit annoyed that any remaining futures stock will be bumped up in price. Anyway, if anyone is returning/cancelling anything good, would be nice to know about it/try to get it at initial futures price, for those of us that don't go to NYC or somewhere south of the border very often. Hey Machine, I just received my notice from LCBO. My Pontet Canet 750's and my Giraud 375's are there, but no Malescot. I should be getting a case. Did they say your Malescot is in? |

My notice is in too... and the Malescot is there, StarV100... Now I have to wait to see if they actually ship the wood case; I'm 5/6 for wood cases with the '05's (they sent loose bottles for my La Confession).
