I was wondering if anyone has tried the 02, is it worth picking up for that price. Even though it was not a good year does it still show what lafite is know for?
thanks for any info or opinions you can offer up
i won't comment on the price because it's what you're comfortable affording (I believe I've seen it on auction blocks in the states for 220$ inclusive of buyers). the 02 lafite is still about 3-5 years from drinking. It's lithe, elegant, fantastic structure. Still retains the lead pencil, very nice crushed red berries and tobacco on the nose. I haven't had any older then late 90s lafites, but for the younger ones, I think this is representative of a lafite and it's a fantastic bottle.

Wait on the Haut Brion a while, I had it last year from a 375ml. Needs another 5-7 years of sleep.

I just had this the other night at a dinner and it was fantastic. I have a few bottles, but wish I had more. Given the price of other first growth vintages, I think this is a relative value. And yes, this will give you a good idea of what Lafite is all about.
