Hey, bartender, let me have another Kendall Jackson. Any way, as I was saying . . . How did you miss that recall deadline on the Firestones? With those tires, you better trade your Explorer for a Hyundai. . .

Vino Me,
You've been busy ! I hope you got packed for Hawaii.
Seaquam is the leopard print thong guy here, he started it, I remember. Poor Eno just can't get the image out of his mind, he's perhaps haunted, or maybe inspired [Wink] ?
Board-O in a track suit killed me [Big Grin]
Thanks for the glass of the Louis 13th, and the '81 Pichon Comtesse de Lalande chaser - only the best, right VM [Wink]
It's been a pleasure to celebrate with you ! [Cool]
Congrats, enjoy your vacation , you've earned it !

To You ! [Big Grin]

I snoozed & almost missed the party.

I'll concede to Wino on the WA wines.
Or Shane, since he can better afford them. [Big Grin]
But Cstore is probably the expert. [Wink]

Anyone know of a good Zin ice? [Big Grin] [Eek!]

Vino Me,
Great read, but I must tell you profits will be down with me pouring all the great Cal cabs. Spillage you know, down my gullet.
And the Queen has volunteered to be the Washington wine buyer. The omission of Wa. wines tugged at her immediately. Perhaps a small Eurocave stocked with Cadence, Russell Creek, Reinenger, Quilceda Creek, Leonetti and the like will soothe her.
Aloha!!!!

Now that the boss is gone let's open up the wine vault and sample the good stuff!!! We'll refill the bottles w/some of my Argentinian swill and some of Jonesys' Gallo cabs - nobody'll ever know the difference. Are you in?

Hey Vino -

Bravo! That was fantastic reading.

I'm honored to be sharing the California portion of the bar with KoH and Redx3 (and, of course, Jones behind that glass booth).

When's my shift over? I need a Riedel (pronounced like 'needle') Sommelier of '94 Harlan!

Great post Vino.
Congrats on the century mark.

By the way, Kieth and tsunami hit me up for a 'Cover Charge' at the door!
Is that bar policy?...or are they shaking down customers for a little 'Pocket Scratch'!

Now where's Mishy, I'd like to order a glass of Stoney Ridge Chard.

Vino Moi---you absolutely SLAY ME!!! Congratulations on the 1000th post--I have enjoyed reading (nearly) each and every one of them!

I too am honored to be sharing Rhone Valley duties with the esteemed Seaquam and GigondAss. (How COULDN'T I be with a name like his!!) For my first two suggestions, may I propose the 1995 Dom. Saint Gayan Gigondas (Rich, full bodied with loads of red fruit, raspberry jam, bits of oak, and hints of wet earth) and the 1999 Vieux Telegraphe CdP Blanc--very reserved aromatically, but wonderful tastes of honey, lemon, and even bits of black licorice, with a pleasing earthiness and a long finish!

BTW--I also noticed the absence of a Burgundy Dept. manager, and would like to second the nomination (albeit the SELF nomination... [Smile] ) of the esteemed, and new wine cellar owner, JBembry.

Looking forward to your next 1000 posts!!!!

Board-O,

Have 1/2 a case of Stoney Ridge '98 Cuesta Vineyard Chard. on its' way.

Looking at scoring some Daniel Lenko and Southbrook products to try (putting in order this week).

Do you know anything about the above producers from Ontario?

Nothing at all. I've visited almost all of the Niagara area wineries three or four times, but I've never heard of those two.

VM,
Congrats on your 1,000th. It's time you take over and now Marvin and the other guys should appear merely in the forums, while we rule the journal (no [Wink] ).
Congrats as well on your lack of knowledge of Spanish plonk: Lancers (and Mateus, BTW) are PORTUGUESE (honestly).
Hope to be still here by your 2,000th post [Smile]

Tyee,

Southbrook is does all of the production of their wines just north of Toronto, although the grapes are grown in Niagara. You can check out their website at www.southbrook.com. I personally haven't had any of their wines, however.

As for Daniel Lenko (www.daniellenko.com), he's been in the game for a long time and supplies grapes to many producers in Ontario. He grows pretty much everything under the sun (pardon the pun), so you're bound to find something you like.

Personally, for Ontario wines (which, to be honest, I'm not all that fond of), try Cilentro Wines. Their Baco Noir was surprisingly tasty. Inky purple, full of fruit. Probably the best Ontario red that I've had.

Hope that helps a little. BTW, if you'd like a rather large list of Ontario wines and some information about them, go to www.lcbo.com, go to product browse, and pick Canada --> Ontario to display extremely brief tasting notes, prices, etc.

All I can tell you is that my friends, and the local wine press, make a big fuss about Daniel Lenko wines. I tasted two of Cilento's recent vintage (sorry, don't recall the details) high-end chards and they were great, but I took the 1996 (I think it was 96) back to the store, it was horrible.

If you only like red wines, and drink a lot of Cali reds, you will not like Ontario wines much - but Lenko is considered genious. I've had GREAT ontario wines, and am looking forward to my shipment of Lenko, Southbrook, Stony Ridge, and future shipments of Pelleteri, Vineland Estates, Thirty Bench and Konzellman.
More to look out for in Ontario are, Strewn, Rief, Thirteenth Street, Lakeview, Hernender, Magnotta, Willow Hieghts, Pelham, Benchmark, Chateau de Charmes, Creekside, Maliviore, Cave Springs, Peninsula Ridge, and Kakaba.
When you open your bloody eyes ?? You are really poor excuse for Ontario residents [Frown]
I mean that fondly, amusingly, but sadly. I know more about Ontario than any of you do, and I've only tasted 6 different wines [Confused]
Learn !!
