pretty sad hey?! its a very lucrative way for the bc gov't to make money on luxury items from its residents who enjoy wine. we pay the highest prices in imported wine among the other provinces in canada. sadly even our okanagan wines (from our own backyard) is set quite high and expensive now. so its very buyer beware for the consumer. wines from spain, chile are aussie are generally fair priced. for the rest.. you better really want it...

Unfortunately I was already at the more remote Westwood store, and it was no better. Indeed we witnessed many bad aspects of human nature that day. I was the 13th person in line but didn't even get a Malescot, the one wine I really wanted. There was a young couple + a friend lined up at 1st 3. They drove off in their Range Rover and M3 loaded FULL of wines like Petrus, Ausone, 1st growths, all the way down to Pontet and Barton. I think a lot of people left empty hand because of them. I hope that wasn't you, hording all that good stuff. Really hope one day this government monopoly rot in hell. Definitely not buying any 09s from there, if not ever.

this is so odd!!! i was at westwood gov't store for the 05 release too. and i was in #14 position. so i was the guy right after you. i really wanted a bottle of malescot too. by the time it was our turn, nothing. no smith haut lafitte either. thankfully got a pontet canet which someone had told me to buy. but honestly wanted the malescot and shl (which i was able to get elsewhere)! i agree it was a complete madhouse in there. even for a smaller store. i can't imagine the craziness at 39th/cambie. i wish they had limited bottle limits even more. like 1-2 bottles max. because with our lineups they were going to sell it off easily... and i think those in our spots were definitely true wine enthusiasts. i doubt the bcldb really cared.. they look at it as $$$$. i remember the couple your referring too.. they cleaned up. and i doubt it was for personal consumption. did you manage to get other bottles you wanted?! this year i went to 39th/cambie about 11am and it wasn't psycho at all. crowds had died down. in fact most everything was there. very civil and you'd easily find what you wanted.
