I can buy red Bordeaux today I know lived up to the hype, is ready to enjoy now/soon, and if the bottle is off, I simply return it for a refund or give it a try again.
With the amount of wine in the market today, and the selling prices being offered, I pleased I saved my money for much more strategic buying.
Sound sound strategy. I've been buying 98's and 03's (A vintage that seemed like it was priced crazy on release but is now selling at auction below 95,96,98,00,05 and even 06) I have picked up about 3 cases total though in the past year. Things in the $25-$45 range that I found below futures pricing, like Lafaurie-Peyraguey last week at $29 each.

If that's for the 2003 in 750s then That's just giving it away.

Agreed. I paid $25 for my 375s and thought I got a good deal.

2005 - 750's. I think I got my 2003's under $20 though (375's) and I'm sure the 750's were under $40. 2001's were $15.95 I remember that for sure.

Bloody good price. Nothing on W-S even close. I paid $40 for 03 L-P and Tour Blanche 750s if I recall correctly, and about $25 for 375s of Sudu and Rieussec. I'll probably get some 07s as it's Jamie's birth year, but for now I'm passing on 05. I'm well stocked for stickies currently.

WC has it for $31 + fees right now and some other nice 375's at $15 (Nirac). The little liquer store on Cahalan and Santa Teresa by me gets stuff as low as you'll find it anywhere on W-S and then 10% off six bottles. It's totally hit and miss what will be in there but some distributor dumps fairly good stuff there pretty regular. I find a lot of 89 pointers or things like the L-P that just didn't get a score high enough for the bigger stores.

Latour- you've softened your stance! I bought about 9 cases of 05s on futures, ranging from Leoville Barton, Pontet Canet, and Malescot down to Haut Bergey and La Fleur Morange Mathilde. I don't think I overpaid for any of it, except perhaps the Sociando Mallet, which I have seen recently for the same price I paid on futures. I have every intention of living long enough to enjoy 05s, and if I don't I guess it won't really matter to me!
******* Not looking good for next year either.

I’m actually mildly surprised at the poll results so far. 50% bought 12 bottles or less? I can totally get why someone with a mature cellar would not jump on 2005 Bordeaux, but I would have thought more people building a cellar would have taken a stab at the 1st and 2nd tranche futures pricing. Barton, Poyferre, Pontet-Canet, Malescot, SmithHaut Lafitte, La Fleur-Petrus, Lascombs, etc. come to mind as great deals in the $50-$80 range. Interesting.

Less than 2 cases. My buying criteria this time vs the 2000 vintage was: try before buying and <$50 per bottle.

Have you tried any after the Reignac or the Pipeau or did you go to that wine vault bistro dinner?
