It's time for a Poll, dammit!

Question:
Given the universal acclaim of the vintage, what is the quantity in number of bottles (delivered or pending delivery) of 2005 Bordeaux that you have in your cellar?

Choices:
0-Overpriced, not interested, too old to enjoy them one day.
1-12
13-36
37-60
61-100
101+

I'm really glad I did not get caught up in '05 Bordeaux fever. I have just a handful of bottles. Got '05 Cos when Costco discounted it heavily online, and I am happy.

When they were released and I saw the pricing, I indignantly declared that I wasn't going to buy a single bottle. Of course, I eventually folded to the tune of 3 cases so far. Roll Eyes

And I'm assuming here that you're only asking about red Bordeaux. Smile

I picked up one bottle from Trader Joe's for $15 and that is the extent of my 2005 Bordeaux holdings, until the First Growths come down below $200 or the Super Seconds come down below $120.

Without looking at CT, I'm estimating I'm probably at about 6-7 cases.

My wine caves are full to the brim. To buy more of these great 05s I needed to invest in more storage capacity, and didn't. Something tells me I saved a lot of money that way!

Big Grin That sounds like me, except I only have 14 bottles, of which 3 are white.

Same with me, lots of sub-$25 bottles, a few between that price and $100, and maybe 50 bottles over $100 (pavie most expensive one). Lots of those everyday drinkers are still pretty tasty today. Most are still more expensive today than when I first bought them. A few on the slate to go back to the store (Smith Haut Lafitte Rouge and Blanc, Haut Bergey Blanc). Most of the $100-plus bottles were in lots of 3 (from LCBO) so afraid to pop any too early. Still waiting on Premier Cru for about 15 bottles.

Ditto. Have you actually tasted the SHL Blanc? I have eight left and am having a hard time keeping my hands off them.

As for Red Bordeaux, zero .

I had no interest in waiting 15-25 years and wishing and hoping the vintage will be as advertised with the pricing offered for futures and or release pricing. Nothing short of insanity.

I can buy red Bordeaux today I know lived up to the hype, is ready to enjoy now/soon, and if the bottle is off, I simply return it for a refund or give it a try again.

With the amount of wine in the market today, and the selling prices being offered, I pleased I saved my money for much more strategic buying.

2005 Pavie for over $350+ and Pavie Macquin for $250. Roll Eyes Hell, you can still buy some of these wines from the 90's for $50. I saw the '95 Pavie for $50 before discount. If some of these wines turn out to be really special, and I hope they do, I will pay the going rate 20+ years from now.

Yes, tasted at 05 bdx tasting at UGC tasting a few years back, and popped a bottle a few months back. I really enjoyed the exotic fruit (at UGC and a few months back), quite lovely actually, but overall not as much my cup of tea as I expected, particularly for the price (I think I prefer whites from burgundy). Same goes for haut bergey blanc, at 40% of the price of the SHL. Anything I bring back would be at LCBO futures price, whatever that was. Everything sitting in my vintage keeper at 57 degrees/70% humidity, fine to stay there until someone wants to get it (though I have several cases of newer stuff piled in front of VC waiting for me to make some room). As for the red, too much coffee/not enough structure for me, first time I ever partially agree with Keith Levenberg tasting note. Detected hints of this at UGC tasting, but just did not work for me when I popped a bottle, and yes I know it is way too young/closed/bla bla bla. Some other nice 05 red bdx will probably find its way back to the store, just so I can make more room for other things instead. Maybe will pop something else from the potential chopping block this weekend...I enjoy them young, won't kick myself for not letting it live up to potential, but if it does not seem to be something that is/will become my style (as if I would know from current tasting) then it might be on return list also, better someone else has it at futures price then LCBO taking it back and repricing it (which I was always told was a no-no, but a while back they told me that all 05 futures should be returned by the stores to head office for future offers).

I recently picked about 10 bottles of some cheapies. I don't buy first growths and higher end anyway, so high prices wasn't a problem. But the cheapies I bought from the 2000 vintage when that was the current vintage are better than the ones I bought from 2005 at similar prices.

You might even have to buy a bottle or two to lay down for yourself...

Originally, zero. However, some of the discounts lately, Costco etc., have been too good to pass up. I now have 42 bottles.
