September was a very slow month after a summer filled with wine.

Whites:

2005 Varner Bee Block Chardonnay
2003 Christoffel-Erben Urziger Wurzgarten Auslese ***

Red:

1999 Chateau Corton-Grancey (Latour)

Just one more sip.

Nice to know that the 2003 Christoffel is drinking well. PC had these for sale about a year ago for next to nothing. Extreme vintage though, what do you think about their aging potential?

PC had these yesterday for $4 above next to nothing. I have had this twice (once at an offline, and one bottle of mine). I have 11 bottles left and will open the next one in 4-5 years probably.

A very slow (wine wise) but hectic month for me. Only one wine worth mentioning:
1995 Charles Heidsieck Champagne Blanc des Millénaires

The knock on the 2003 vintage is lack of acidity for aging. Well, this one has plenty of acidity. I like these for their intense fruit and crispness, not so much for their secondary petro characterisitics. I think the wine is ready now but will age for a decade. Whether or not one considers that aging to be an improvement is up to interpretation. I don't think it will ever be any better than it is now.

Just one more sip.

1990 Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill
2006 Pyramid Valley Calvert Vineyard Pinot Noir (Cent. Otago, NZ)
2006 The Black Chook Viognier/Marsanne/Roussanne (this last is a qpr pick, not an overall stunner - I didn't have any stellar whites in Sept.)

September was an especially good month:

1991 Joseph Phelps Insignia
1996 Henschke Mount Edelstone
1997 Opus One
2000 Shafer Hillside

1996 Nicolas Feuillatte Ambonnay
1996 Dom Perignon
1996 Duval-Leroy Femme

If I had to pick only one red and one bubbly the Insignia and the Feuillatte would get the nod.

Very slow month. No whites of significance. Reds would probably be:

1999 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet
1999 Betz Pere de Famille Cabernet
