Oh boy, I'm all for the screw caps for drinking now wines. And if we can control the rubber or plastic seal breaking down over time screw caps are the ultimate. But, they don't completely fix cork taint. BV in '98? That wasn't from the corks, it was from the winery itself.

This is a topic that won’t seem to die. Personally, I feel that if the wine will not be tainted because screw caps were used that is great. I do not care what method of closure is used for wine as long as the wine in the bottle is how the winemaker intended it to be. From what I can tell, screw caps appear to give this the best chance of happening. However, when contemplating this issue, I began wondering what percentage of the wine drinking population equates the use of corks to the quality of the wine. Also, is there correlation between the age of the consumer and what they believe about this issue? I only mention the age issue because I can be sure that if I break out a bottle with a screw cap in the presence of my father-in-law that he will immediately have some negative comment about the quality of the wine….before he even tastes it!! I'm sure that these questions have been addressed in this forum in the past but with all of the multiple threads relating to the use of corks vs. screw caps I am just too lazy to search these arguments out.
